Hi all

IIRC the standard V8 spark plug is a bosch HR9BCY

So If i'm looking for 1 heat range colder, would go for the HR8BCY...

You think there's any danger in going 2 ranges down?

i would put the colder ones at the front ... rather than the rear of the engine!

How many heat ranges do Superdyne recommend, general rule of thumb colder for more revs and less breakdown. :D

hmm maybe i need the temp range explained, i thought a hotter rated plug was more suited to a hotter engine and maybe a closed up one, ie in a truck or something.

Temp range as in the rate at which the plug dissipates thermal heat from the gates of hell (read: inside my combustion chamber).

A "cooler" plug will dissipate more heat into the head/cooling system and hence runs cooler. But if you run too cool then you'll foul up the plug real quick.

A hotter plug dissipates less heat and runs hotter... run too hot and the heat of the plug will ignite the fuel before the spark fires.. i.e. pre ignite (nice way to demolish an engine, so im told!)

GTBob, im pretty sure the blower was supplied with 1 heat range down from standard.

Lol, the plug manufacturers are COMPLETE ASSHATS. I look at the NGK site, the standard EF V8 plug is BPR5FS-15... but then the site tells me that is the equivalent of BOSCH HR8BCY.... which is 1 range cooler than what BOSCH claim is the standard plug (HR9BCY). Excuse my French... but what the f**k?!?!?

Welcome to the wonderfull world of cross referencing spark plugs I have been battling with this problem for 40 years and it still seems noone can standardize the tables one of the only reasons colder plugs foul up used to be the lead in the fuel and also F****** motor (read OIL BURNER). I regularly use 2 steps colder in my GTHO but being a rotten old revhead it is seldom under 5000 RPM :D :D :D

I know with NGK's if you change the number up or down you change heat range, but it's either Champion or Bosch that you change the number and you can actually land up with a completely different plug, there not number reflects heat range. It's probably Champion, but just a word of warning

Why do you want Basch plugs, I have always been told that the NGK ones are amongst the best, plus CAPA use them with the blower kits anyway.

Brands on plugs is like oil or noses .. Everyone has one... An opinion that is..
With NGK the higher the number the colder that plug..I run NGK BCPR7 Es

But with champions The LOWER the number the colder the plug...
N12 are hotter than N9's.....
Btw generally rpm has nothing to do with it...Its combustion temperatures..A rule of thumb is one colder for every 100 h.p over std....

All i can say is that the NGK iridiums i had in mine were causing a slight misfire in the top of the rev range, as can be seen in the unichip retune, changing back to standard bosch plugs with the MSD Blaster coil solved this problem with more power throughout the rev range

I have also found on my EL that Bosch Plugs dont foul up as much as NGK's were doing :lol:

Yeah ended up going the NGKs... I stopped being such a slackass and pulled one out to grab the number, lol.

Check the gap on these plugs they say they are "pre gapped"..But I have found them to be gapped as far as 2mm over .080...
Whick would deffinately cause hi rpm miss....
