hey guys, i have a 01 220kw XR8 and its started to do something iv never seen or heard of...

every so often when i give it a bit of a squirt at a random point it feels like the car crams itself into first gear, the nose dives into the ground and almost puts me through the windscreen, sort of shutters a bit and then its back to normal when i take my foot off, all withing the space of about 3 seconds maybe not even that...

if anyone has any ideas let me know coz iv got nothin and neither does my mechanic...

cant pin point if its dureing or after the gear changes coz im to busy s**t my pants...

sounds like a fuel starvation issue......

pump or filter... change filter 1st as they are only $20. may be blocked restricting flow at high revs.

check your MAF is clean, I had EXACT issue on a car I just purchase 2nd hand. Intake between the MAF and TB was split.

I assume its ok at cruising speed, soon as you go to get up it a bit it coughs and bangs and carries on. I picked a few V8 heads, MAF was what everyone suggested. some contact cleaner from jaycar will clean up the hotwire in there. be careful not to touch it though.

If you keep your foot on it it will just pig root around, a bucking motion? = Pig rooting.

Need way more info.
What gear are you in when it does it?
What speed does it happen at?
How much throttle are you giving it?
In the absence of any more info I agree with AU99.

Lock it in, 1st gear, and gently accelerate into the gear, run it up to say 5000rpm, if its fuel starvation it will always occur at a same or similar point.

Interesting that my broken intake pipe yielded the same effect.

well i dont think its fuel starvation, just went and gave it a test (love the sound of it in 1st at 5 grand with the 3 inch catback)... had the tank cleaned out maybe 2 weeks ago, also got new fuel pump and modual and changed the fuel filter... tomoz will check the intake pipe, the little curling pipe that comes off it has been loose before...

it does "pig root" if you keep your foot on... lol i like that expression...
