I have a question that I know would have been asked before but I must have missed it.

How many Ford models were speed limited. I was under the impression it was all the E series execpt the original EA MPI S manual? I have driven ELs and AUs 6 cylinder cars that were limited to 170 KPH or so.

I have an EB series 1 5.0 litre Fairmont Ghia and I have discovered it is not speed limited. Well not up to 200 any way. Is this normal or has this car been modified?

Thanks

Yeah afaik, its only the XR series that weren't limited, unless there were some other special models that didn't have one.
Otherwise they're all limited to 180km/h.

EB1 no speed limiters. Think that it started either EB2 or ED. Parents stock EB1 Fairmont auto not speed limited. My own EL XR8 auto not speed limited does run a powerchip though although I don't think that powerchip can do speed limiter changes.

Is the only way to get rid of speed limiters is a xr computer or flash tune?

DONMT GET RID OF IT

imo only remove it once you have an upgraded tailshaft well thatd be the only reason i would change anyway

i know many falcons that go over 200 with stock tail shafts, most have shaft hoops tho.

if you want the unlikely snap shot, search for "why speedlimiters are a good thing" by "datamine"

Just get the car put on LPG, no speed limiter on LPG but on petrol it halts at 180

I wont be doing it again til I get a new tailshaft though.

What's the go with the tailshaft? I've pushed my EL XR8 over 200 once or twice on long country runs... I mean the racetrack! Between 180 and 190 there is some vibration that I don't get any other time, but once I pass 190 it's all smooth sailing. Could this be the sign of something nasty?

You never know but do you really want to find out the hard way?if your gonna do any speed over 180(tailshaft limit)then you need either the NT two piece tailshaft or an upgraded custom shaft. No one can say something will happen but we can tell you something can happen and has happend before.

Thanks, I'll look into an upgrade then. I don't want to be able to tell anyone first hand what can happen.

best cheap upgrade is two tailshaft hoops, if it goes it will lessen the damage to the car, and chance of shaft hitting the deck.

If you have gas, the limiter isn't in place as there is no means of injection like there is petrol, I believe. But the times you do 180+ are few and far between in most cases.
