Howdy ppl...
Yet another stupid question, lol.. With the ss induction kits, do they come with everything needed to install it yourself? Do i need to drill any new holes or mount any brackets or anything? Or does it just replace the existing tickford (in my el xr8) induction kit? Thanks once again fellas.. |

Maybe some modification of the airbox required. Those things have fairly large openings.

YOu have to cut the hole in your airbox bigger...

Yep, very large hole in your airbox and from memory you need to drill a couple of holes in the front lip of the air intake itself to be able to screw into the metal to anchor it. Note, when you do fit the actual snorkel and are lining it up, make sure the back of the snorkel fully clears the power steering pulley otherwise it'll just put a hole into the back of your snorkel.

yeah what he said..., i learned the hard way....., even tho it still might have a little bit or clearance, the engine moves when your driving and changing gears, coz it was alright for me revving it up and everything, but after i took for the 1st drive it razored the back of my snorkel off...

for over $200 tho is it really worth the 4kw? .. i mean we did a hot run with the au2 xr8 snorkel and got 3kw out of it too for $30 instead. much cheaper

Yeh but I discovered that after fitting the aftermarket jobbie. Had I figured that out beforehand I would've just gone with a GT snorkel and be done with it. As for how much it pumps out in terms of kilowatts I'd say it could be worth anywhere from a couple of kw up to 7 or 8 kw and that would depend on each individual car and setup.

I have actually had to get out the plane, and take a fair amount of plastice off the top of the snorkel and the front area of the opening cos it sits too high for the XR's. I think they use the same for the falcons, as the bonnet on those doesnt drop away as sharply as the XR. Not a great deal of effort though, so yeah should be right to do yourself...
I am looking at the options of buying a new passenger side bonnet vent too and building an air intake that sits above the bonnet level that ports air in to the box. Nothing a bit of fibreglass, and a few pipes and things wont fix. Heck theres a (closed off) vent sitting directly above the aribox, so you dont even need to cut anything into the bonnet, but you get the coolest possible air with next to no restriction from the bonnet or radiator or anything. Will tell you how the plan goes as i progress...

Vents are designed to release hot air, you want a scoop to put air in... |

a better time than 15.27 with a 200 000km old ef XR6 still using using the stock muffler. you have to be kidding this car when i got it was only doing 15.8 droped my time by .1 consistantly. befor the ss kit it was 15.8 all night. after was 15.7 all night with a best 15.68 at that point i put the pace makers on and droped it to 15.3 all night with a best of 15.27 ever seens one up close? or with a tickford snorkle sitting next to it? i don't why any one even bothers putting a tickford one. there not much bigger then than the stock one.
