Hey All,
Did some searching, a lot of helpful information on here however not so much on the issue of heat. Story goes like this, I want to change to a stainless intake pipe for looks only. Car is an AU, TE50. The stock rubber one is severely discoloured and is letting down the look of the engine bay. I am not doing this for any performance gains, I dont believe it would be worth it if I was...strictly for looks. However I am concerned about heat. I do not want to do this aesthetic mod if it will decrease performance due to the pipe getting excessively hot. Has anyone had any experiences with them regarding heat? If not then Ill just get it done and find out myself...but if theres something I should know before I go ahead with it Id rather know now. Thanks guys, and gals.

one option to make it all look better would be to get it coated. this would keep out the heat, and some of the coatings look really good.

i dont think that itll get that much hotter than a plastic one, only that the metal will retain heat for longer, which doesnt really matter.
i say go for it! all polished up!

I made one for a Mazda Bravo ute, got another 100kms on a tank at hiway speed. It also gave it a lot more power too.

The original is 63mm and the one I made is 4". It made heaps of difference. Now it needs an LSD in it to give it traction.

By coated you mean HPC coating or something similar? There are a couple of nice setups, all polished up. Im not hearing any bad things tho so it sounds ok so far!!

Don't know if it would work but if heat's a worry what about getting the inside of the pipe coated.
Still get the polished look on the outside and the insulation on the inside.

Id make one up and get it powder coated. It'll be better for heat shielding and wont come off. Plus you can choose just about any colour.

I saw them, however they are just a plain black arent they? I am after a shiny stainless one. Ill get it priced up in the next few days

aha, i see, it helps to scroll down the page
Dont really like the weld joints, looks messy...however i forgot about the MAF sensor...which would be might difficult to inforporate in to an exhaust shop job. EDIT: Although, as mine is the 5.6L and has a pod filter (same as the BA) i dont think it has the MAF sensor half way along the pipe. Im pretty sure mine is up near the intake like the BA in the top pic on the BPT page

yeah, i was talking about HPC coating. there are some shiny coatings for things that won't see a lot of heat.
