NOT RIGHT man you DON'T need a timing light to set static timing. All you need is a test light.

Ok, here we go. Haven't done this for 25 yrs probably.

1. Connect test light one lead to earth and other to signal post on coil.
2. Rotate crank pulley so that the 10 deg mark is adjacent to the timing pointer.
3. Loosen the disrtibutor clamp.
4. Turn on ignition but don't start.
5. Rotate the distributor so that the test light just goes off or just comes on - can't remember. Also depends on how much the timing is out.
6. Tighten the disrtibutor clamp.
7. Test.

Have a play and you will work it out.

You don't even need a test light honestly but static timing will only get you in the ballpark not spot on.

Basically you set the crank @ 10deg. Take the dizzy cap off. Turn on the ignition. Turn the dizzy till it sparks. Easiest to do in the dark but can be done in the day without a problem. I've done it many times.

After you've done it? Make sure you have the timing properly adjusted. Don't leave it too long.
