Hi folks,

I have been having a pinging issue in my EL XR8 and it was suggested that i run some water through the engine to clean the carbon deposits that might be there.

i was reading in this months ford amgazine and a fellow with a BA fairmont I6 felt he had lsot power and ran a can of this stuff from subaru through the motor. basically you open the throttle body with the motor off and spray half a can in, close the TB and replace the induction, start the car at idle until it starts to smoke, turn it back off, remove induction, empty the can in there, replace induction and then start it, give it a few boot fulls, take it for a rive and in theory it should clear all the crap out.

he showed a picture and this thing was smoking like a train! dark smoke too suggesting carbon.

any chance this could do harm for my XR8? also any chance it will block the cats? i was thinking that seeing as its a subaru product it wouldnt given they all run cats and have done for years.

thoughts and experiences on this product?

thanks fellas

Give it a crack man, whats the worst that could happen :D
Worst case in my eyes would be that it did nothing, surely it will do some cleaning somewhere.

yeah i was worried about the cats but i figure if subaru use it on a turbo powered cat equipt car it cant be too bad.

if ford make the same thing ill use theirs... rather give them the money :)

Apparently Suburu dealers do it every service on WRXs and STis, so I dont think it should stuff the cats, just remember you might need two bottles to do a V8 properly.

yeh thats good $h17 but everone that i know that uses this (or the wurth one) do it with the engine running and spray it in holding the revvs up and taking it though the revv range (usually someone in the car on the gas) and it blows heaaaps of black smoke. some mid-late 90s VW's that get driven by old ladies carbon up real bad that they stall and splutter, til we run the wurth stuff though and a frizbee size black mark on the driveway from the cr4p coming out the exhaust. also find it easier to remove a breather hose on the intake (if its located after an airmass meter, yes i know fords are MAP) and spray it in there.

pretty sure that spray is also in the subaru log book service and recommended every 7,500kms?

If Subaru use it and it doesn't blow their engines up any more than they do by them selves, i say give it a go! s**t, i might even give this a go, looks good. Do you have to take the intake off or can you just open up the TB spray it in and start her up?

I presume it would be the same as spraying Carby Cleaner into the throttle body with someone reving on the accelerator!
If the s**t works I'll have to get some as my FAIRMONT is spluttering a bit, if the snorkel is off the airbox does this cause issues with engine performance? My Tickford Snorkel got chunks taken out when it hit the pulley on impact.
