I have the common AU ticking noise from the purge solenoid that operates the charcoal canister system.

While the car was running and the valve ticking, I disconnected the wiring and it stopped.

My question is can I leave it disconnected or will it pressurised the fuel tank or worse?

Ford want $160 for a new one so I want another option.

Thanks.

yes you can un plug it,
it wont pressurise the tank, but in hot weather when low on fuel the excess fumes can build up in the canister and exit the canister via the breather pipe just above the left headlight giving off a petrol smell from the engine bay,

what I have done is run a hose from the canister breather into the lower airbox, this just lets the canister breath into the box and the engine consumes any excess fumes through the intake rather than it being sucked out by manifold vac via the solenoid..
been like it for quite a while and no issues..

although if you run duel fuel it might not be a good idea to let the canister breath into the airbox just in case of lpg backfire..

have you tried a 6 cyl solenoid? curious to see if they work in the v8?

Thank you for the advice.

I am going to try and cover it up with dynomat or sponges etc but if thats still too loud I am going to do exactly as you have suggested.

Thanks!!
