Well the mainshaft bearing decided to spit the dummy after just a few heavy cluch dumps at Heathcote. Now I'm getting a rumble/vibration from the rear of the box. I set the end float at .02 and the gearbox was swell until I decided to unleash the beast that lives under the bonnet upon it.
All good at cruising speed but as soon as you load it up the vibration is quite pronounced. Anyone else have similar experiences?? I was using a synthetic additive and .5l of gear oil for good measure. |

I dunno what your trying to ask...but...
Clutch dumps and cheap a*** gearboxes don't mix. You should know that, you've obviously rebuilt it. I'd advise you sort out the alleged fatigued bearing and replace it before the gears wear even more.

So what oil and exactly how much were you using?
The T5 capacity is 1.9L and is to be used with ATF with an additive. I use and will always use the oil reccomended by Malwoods which is Castrol TransmaxZ, no need for additives with this oil as all the properties are in the oil already.

1. Dead stock I took this thing to a 14.35 (with me 100kg, sunroof etc). Only one individual has gotten quicker and that was an au3 xr8.

If I recall correctly it has aftermarket flat top pistons, non standard heads and a modified intake... And I really don't understand why you won't 'tune' it? Having the ecu parameters reset to suit your modified engine can not only improve your power figures, but also improve fuel economy... *SHOCK HORROR* yes it is true cars out there return better L/100km after tuning. As for the gear box, I'd suggest you need a replacement gear set at some time in the future. T5s can be made to last we have a T1 TE50 making 610hp & 450ft/lb with a stock T5 and it has no issue whatsoever.

^^Out of interest Dave, does that T5 in question have a GForce a*** or other aftermarket upgrade? If whatever you have there can handle what Leon has in that TE50 it will more than suffice for my baby stroker
 May just go down that road instead of the TKO.
T2: Get ur box rebuilt completely dood. Id say you woulda done some significant damage to it when you grabbed reverse goin down th 1/4 that time. After that event, any subsequent hard driving couldn't be that good for it. |

It is completely stock apart from the Redline gear oil inside it. It does however sweat abit from the gaskets, where the case is twisting!

Thanks for the tips guys. As I said the gearbox was good up until rescently. My last box (same one) had wicked input/mainshaft end float and pissing out oil from the input shaft.
T5's are weak!!!!!!!!! The casing is just too flimsy!!!!! That 347 will mince that box, come back to me after 20 odd runs

Dex3 with molybdenum synthetic additive (grey stuff) and .5L 90/140 LSD oil. The gear oil really does quieten the mainshaft/countershaft bearings down once box is worn in. |
