Just wondering what size throttle body people recommend with the 77mm MAF I just bought. I am looking at a 65mm throttle body, or do people reckon I should go up to 70mm?
The car at the moment is relatively stock but will have manifold/head upgrade in the future Thanks |

65mm is the go for most mild 5.0's but a 70mm won't be a problem either. It really depends on your total combo once you have modified your engine. Right now the 65mm will be what you need.

Leave the EGR in there if you have it. The ECU is programmed for EGR which means better emisions and better fuel consumption. You don't need it in Oz, however to remove it fully you need to disable EGR in the ECU using TwEECer or aftermarket chip/computer I believe.

You do need to keep it legally and there is no real advantage removign it anyway. Just make sure your EGR spacer matches the TB size, if you use your stock one with a 65 or 70mm TB then it will be a restriction. As for the actual throttle body, stick with the 65mm IMO. They flow more than enough for most engines and maintain good throttle response compared with a 70mm one. |

Thanks for that guys....looks like 65mm is the go
Any idea where I can get a bigger EGR spacer??? Cheers |

You could have it turned to a bigger inner diameter at a machine shop for about $50. Or try ebay.com (ebay motors) for someone overseas selling one.
Make sure they have world wide postage, and ask for postage cost before you bid. I picked up a 70mm tb that way, but got stung with postage (still ended up pretty cheap). I also turned a 65mm EGR out to 70mm to suit it.

Any idea if the stock EGR is 65mm or 55mm to suit the standard throttle body?

Stock one is around 62mm from memory, the one to suit a 65mm TB is closer to 70mm. You can get larger EGR spacers from VPW (www.vpw.com.au), I think thye do the professional product ones for under $100.

When i upgraded my TB to 65mm, Mr Landau also got me a stock EGR, but had it opened up by a machine shop.It has the same size opening as my TB. Not sure where he got this done, but maybe he could help you out

What is the EGR?

EGR (exhaust gas recirculation). Basically reduces nitrogen oxide in the combustion chamber by recirculating exhaust air which is hotter than intake air so the air/fuel mix doesnt have to heat up the air as much so its more efficient.

It acutually reduces combustion chamber temps by quite a bit. The EGR system gets has a bad rep because people think it reduces performance but it does a lot of good for the engine plus the environment. |
