Go for it if they are cheap enough.

They are pretty much bolt on heads, the only issue is with spark plug to exhaust manifold clearance as GT40P's have a different spark plug angle. Genie, Pacemaker and HM headers will fit as long as you use 90 degree spark plug leads. Also just make sure if you plan to fit a cam with them that the valve springs are aftermarket ones, the ones ford used were pretty ordinary and not capable of much more than 500th lift. Otherwise they are very nice heads and flow 20% more than standard GT40P's.

if i got them would it be worth fitting them straight away, without a better cam/intake? or just wait and save to get the lot done 2gether?

I believe the biggest restriction would be the HO intake manifold.

Depends on how long it will take to save up. It is best to do it in one hit as that will give you the best gain, but the heads on their own will also give you some improvements. In the end, you will only be wasting an intake manifold gasket (about $50), and a day's labour by doing it now and then pulling it back down when you want to do the cam and intake. As I said, you will see some gains from just doing the heads.

Im prob gona get the TS50 heads. Should i stick with an explorer manifold or edlebrock? Im gona get an AU 65mm throttle body, think this should be sufficient. Just need a bigger MAF and maybe injectors? Asked Hallam Performance about the build & prices, they said i need a bigger stall convertor for a cam. Im looking at around 200-215kw at the wheels.

over 200rwkw gets pretty difficult with the 5L, you either need top shelf alloy heads, intake, big cam etc otherwise go stroker. With GT40P's, cam, intake etc, expect around 180-190rwkw. As for the manifold, the explorer is a good unit if you get it cheap, it will support 180-200rwkw without too much drama, after that you are looking at aftermarket items. And no you generally dont need a biger stall with the majority of cams available for the 5L, I have used a number of different cams and the stock auto stall works nicely.

so no dramas with cams, sounds good. wat power would i expect with a crane 2031 or 2030 cam? if i can get TS 50 heads for $1200, $250 on AU 65mm throttle body, i still have around $4600 to spend. will that get me over the line for new cam, rockers, manifold etc plus install and dyno?

There are a number of V8's running around with the same mods (GT40P's, 2031/2030 cam, intake, roller rockers, MAF, TB etc) and they all seem to be around the 170-190rwkw mark depending on tune.
$4600 should get the rest of the engine done. Intake $600 ($1k for aftermarket), roller rockers $450, cam $400 (add another $400 for springs/retainers if the GT40P's just have the tickford ones), MAF/injectors $800-$1k, installation $500-$1k (guessing) so thats $3-4k all up then you have all the little things like gaskets etc. |

You could try Mick Webb in Ringwood.
{DESCRIPTION} If you decide to go through him then tell us how it goes as I am wanting to do the same thing once I have all the parts.

Tickford out-sourced the work on these heads to yella terra. They don't have a great deal of work done to them but it does increase the flow by close to 20% which makes them pretty close to a lot of out-of-the-box aftermarket heads.
EDIT: Yeah Mich Webb is a very good option, he isn't the cheapest around but he knows his stuff and won't sell you stuff you don't need. |

i know he's expensive, quoted me 1050 for extractors and i got em for 550 on ebay! Might be getting an Edelbrock RPM manifold, so would it be worth getting a 70mm throttle body or just stick with an AU 65mm?
