What has everyone done with their Windsor engines and what power figures have you achieved?

I havn't done anything but what's in my sig so far (only had the car for a few weeks :P ). I plan on doing the cam (not sure which yet), roller-rockers (depending on cam), chip it and see how it goes :) Lot's more research to do first though, I don't know nearly enough about the V8

LSD will probably go in there somewhere as well.

Not going for insane power figures just better than average  Hopefully get on a dyno soon, anyone know what a stock 175kW AU should pull at the wheels?

Well i took the coward's way out and bolted on a powerdyne. Engine has never been cracked open

If 175kw at the fly, should be around 115-130 at the wheels depending on... all sorts of stuff, lol. FYI, my stock windsor with a cat-back zorst did 116kw at the wheels (auto), i would expect yours to be reasonably higher.

So far, all I've been able to afford to do to mine is 70mm MAF, EL XR8/GT snorkle, 3" cat back single system and underdrive pulleys. Also running 4 degrees extra timing as I only use PULP.
Even these basic mods have made a pleasing improvement.

The AU gives a really good base for mods. It already has GT40P heads and explorer intake which flow quite well. A cam upgrade with a Crane 2031 or 2030 should give you around 170rwkw. Other improvements would come from changine the extractors to an aftermarket brand like pacemaker (the tickford 220 ones are ok but still not great). After that you will be looking at a stroker package which will give 220-240rwkw or forced induction giving 240+rwkw.

Well the steps I went through were:

1) Stock 165kw engine with extrators and exhaust which gave 110rwkw
2) Rebuild, balancing and strengthning the bottom end, ported GT40P 220kw heads, ported Cobra intake, 70mm TB, 24lb injectors, 75mm MAF and a smallish Crow cam which gave 170rwkw
3) Vortech blower @ 10psi and larger cam which gave me 260rwkw with a lot of problems
4) Currently fitting 42lb injectors and aftermarket management system.

Thanks for the advice EDXR8

Sounds like you've done a lot of hard work on that windsor of yours! 10psi and 42lb injectors  and I have a grumble about my fuel bill :P

I am currently at EDXR8s first stage.. Every time I get money to do something serious something comes up that can not be avoided. So much for little/no living expenses. After I come back from o'seas next year, I intend to import a trickflow engine kit which includes heads, intake, cam, rollers etc. As well as all the usual TB and MAF from Shane. Chrome pulleys also from Shane. Expect up to 200rwkw with that setup for a 5.0L, hopefully I won't want anymore than that as it is a daily driver.

How do you guys find blowers for daily driving?

Mine is still in the build but current specs are
Eagle 347 Forged steel crankshaft
Eagle 5.4" H beam rods
SRP 10.5 full floating forged pistons
AFR 185 street legal alloy heads
Crane Gold race 1.6 roller rockers
Trick Flow "R" intake manifold
42lb/hr Ford Racing injectors
75mm Accufab throttle body and EGR spacer
High Energy sump
Comp Cams XE282HR hydraulic roller cam
I am chasing 300kw with my combination - I will need to move the upper RPM limiter up to around 7000 - if I don't get it N/A I have a little Nitrous oxide kit to help out.
Shane

Unlike EDXR8 my engine internals are completely stock. So if I can resist temptation to plant the right foot, it sounds and drives like a standard windsor. Fuel consumption is fine unless giving it a bit.

Lol, actually had a bloke on a motorbike stick his head in my window at the traffic lights and say 'you sure its a supercharged 8? doesnt sound like it...'. I dont think there was any doubt after i took off, lol.

But yeah - i drive my car into the CBD every day no probs. Just like a stocker at low throttle with a nice amount of poke when you want it.

Well, lets see: GT-40P Explorer heads, roller rockers, camshaft, upgraded 65mm throttle body and engine management system, electronic ignition, low restriction extractors with twin pipe exhaust system, EL XR8 3.45 LSD with adaptive shift auto making shift kit pointless.
All stock.
Other than that ive plugged up teh backfire tubing on teh aintake piping above the passenger strut tower.
Under drive pullies set to come - maybe one day supercharger if insurance allows.
Not much i can do without big $$$ :(

I haven't driven mine much because I am fixing up fueling and computer issues but I have found it very nice for normal street use. The blower really doesn't come in strong until around 3000rpm so if you drive it normally, fuel consumption is equal if not better than NA (depending on tuning). Start reving it up high and fuel economy goes to hell as you would expect.

Yeah good call Grant. Was speaking with CAPA daily when they were doing my chip, they give it a fair bit more spark advance under light loads at low RPM.
