Bought a Fairmont Ghia BA V8 a year ago with all options including GPS, sun roof, 2 tone leather 80,000 kms for $15,000

After about a month 1 phaser failed, when the front cover was taken off everything was full of sludge and crust, the first owner only had 2 services in 6 years :x A new phaser ($492), rail guide, 2 cam chain tensioners ($300), sump clean out, auto serviced.

$2264.00

I've fitted an xforce exhaust cat back for $600 and it sounds incredible, bit loud but almost sounds like my old 351, I've never heard an XR that comes close  perhaps it's the VCT?

The car is great to drive especially with the Ghia suspension and I'd recommend the 3V even with it's issues, oh and my heater doesn't work on the passenger side

any other owners out there with comments on the car. I have been looking and its very hard to find a BF for a good price, previous owners obviously know how good they are.

ive got a xt 3v.
great fun car. does well in the power stakes.
but as mentiond you would be kickin yourself if you brought a ba coz you miss out on the zf 6spd.
i woulda liked a bf but as this was preety much the same price as a 6pot ba at the time i couldnt afford anythin more.
not regretting my decision at all.

I've have a 04 ba mont 3v and love it, plenty of grunt! I got mine for $12k about 18months ago. The spark plugs breaking is definately an issue it cost me $200 to get one replaced because it broke. Also my radiator leaked and had to be replace which was about $300 and is another common problem. I normally get about 13lt/100km and I'm a lead foot and do 50\50 city/freeway driving. Haven't had and major problems yet, fingers crossed it stays that way. Took it down to heathcote and ran a 14.9 only mod was an XR8 exhaust. Sounded a bit better with the XR8 exhaust but not good enough so I'm getting a Manta quad system. I also made my own C.A.I which sounds awesome, has a big induction raw now which I'm loving. Has plenty of towing power too, I was towing a trailer and didn't evan feel it. Sound system in it is great for a standard system too. definately worth getting.

well with a few small mods ive done. exhaust, intake, underdrives and 3.46 gears im soo damn close to the 13 sec bracket. still untuned so i have to do all the shifting myself.

id say the fairmont is preety similar maybe slightly heavyer than my car but not much.

Power: 205 rwkw

Got mine dyno tuned a month back and I've put a bigger T/B on. Dunno what it does down the strip but now has 225 rwkw and 607NM Torque at the flywheel. My mate has a FG Xr8 Manual (just a growler intake) and it's neck and neck with that. Keep in mind FG XR8's are boss 290's. They are good cars and go hard but I just had to spend 2.5K getting timing chain tensioners and phasors replaced. BF's don't have that problem though. And mine doesn't have an LSD. But the only thing I can do to mine now is under drives. Then I've got every bolt on mod you can buy for the 3V. So without changing the cams and diff ratio it's at the limit of it's performance.

given the quickest N/A 3V Auto that i've seen was only doing mid 13's, and the quickest manual high 12's.. its not surprising.
both these were running stock cams
