OK - I have a 5.0 with the standard distributor and i want to convert this system to the coilpack system as used in the AU models
I will be using the MSD DIS4 system with coilpacks etc but i need to get an idea of what parts i will need to source to get this system to work Obviously there will need to be some type of crank angle sensor needed but what else? Any help appreciated

I fitted Motec wheel and senser that fits in front of pulley and cut 7 vanes away from dissy leavin one left.. This becomes the cam sensor...MSD have crank angle sensers too... Then used four mitsi coils from Evo...

After reading couple of threads from different people on different forums this is what i have come up with so far
MSD DIS4 HO Part number: 62153 Approx Price = $800 MSD 4 Tower Coil Pack (2 needed) Part Number: 8241 Approx Price = $120ea MSD Tach Drivers (2 needed) Part Number: 8913 Approx Price = $85ea MSD Flying Magnet Crank Trigger Kit Part Number: 8640 Approx Price = $310 MSD superconductor ignition leads available through A1 High Performance Approx Price = $160-200 Dave says to use the Super Conductor wire rather than the Helicore wire from MSD. Much lower resistance along the lead (50 ohms per foot) and lower EMI levels than the helicore wire

What ECU are you using?
Check my 351W into XE post about crank encoder wheels etc. Pete. |

To start with i will be using reprogrammed standard computer to run new motor but this will be changed to a MoTeC M48 or similar down the line
Will find your thread and have looksy

Will find your thread and have looksy BTW what car are we talking about here? I'm afraid your std EEC will not be able to run direct ignition. It can probably be enabled with EB-ED EEC's because I can enable it with tweecer on U.S. A9* type EEC's which are nearly identical. Ef-EL EEC's are more difficult. Either way you'll need an EDIS-8 module and a 36-1 crank encoder like I mention in my "351w into XE" post. Using an AU 5.0 cam encoder will be the easiest option for your TDC marker. Pete. |

New motor will start it's life in my EF XR but is destined for my AU project car so fitting it up with direct ignition now instead of later I am going to get whole computer reprogrammed through chiptorque so they should be able to compensate for this won't they? Is the cam encoder you're referring to same as MSD cam sync plug? After reading results some guys are getting with MSD systems on AFF i'm leaning towards this route as this motor will be revving in the 7k vicinity Thanks for all your help guys Much appreciated
