Mate, thats like asking whats better, a blowie, or a shag.....

Its all going to depend on budget, what you want to use the the car for, what you expect, and so forth.

What do you want from the car?

Fair enough.

Well the mods on the car at the moment is listed below. Im looking to hopefully reach between the 210-220rwkw mark if that sounds reachable.
I read that the T5 gearbox cant really handle more than 250 (correct me if im wrong).

My funds are at 3k at the moment.

Its a everyday driver but would like it to get some decent times at the runs whenever its on.

Maybe a set of alloy heads and cam will get that mark with out stroking it?

Stroking it won't get you as big a power gain as doing the top end, but you'll see a bucket-load more torque. Correct me if I'm wrong though! I'm kinda wishing I stroked it first, then did the top end to suit.

I'd probably be feeling the other way then...

Would porting the standard heads and manifold give me close to the same power gains compared to getting new ones?
Ive had a look at the AFR and trickflow gear and just for heads are already close to 3K.

Porting of the P heads will see good gains, but realistically, they are a factory part, and the aftermarket has really got some graet gear.
Edelbrock heads would be a great option for the power levels you are looking for.

mate u cant beat cubic inches so if your budget is 3 grand start in the bottom the heads will restrict power but u wont have to pull the engine out again build the bottom end strong wit a good cam and when your budget allows go for alloy heads and a good manifold.

only cos u can't stroke it without the top end and have any decent effect....

Top end rebuid only = cheaper option with very decent gains (Ask Scaffy or XH5LWEPN)
Stroker without top end rebuild = not worth it in my view. Crappy stock top end will defeat the purpose.
both = turning your footwell into a cream bath :)

$0.02

Of course a stroker would be worth it on the std bottom end on the car in question, series 3 AU XR8. The heads, manifold and cam are all up to the task, in fact its pretty much exactly the same as the set-up you'll be driving soon.

ok. it seems like i dont have the funds to do the whole top end so I was just thinking of a cam to start off with. Ive read in some topics about roller rokers, are they something which would compliment a new cam and what is the purpose of it?

nothing wrong with the 40p, explorer combo and yes there is a few people on here running that combo (ported) on e series 5ltrs with good results. i think s-tranzor might of thaught you had an e series with crappy e7s.
