sorry if this has been asked before, just checked my tps voltage, key on engine off throtle closed .80 v,wot 4.5v.This is within specs going by my max ellerys manual which says, closed .70v -or+ .15,or wot 4.4v.Ive read on a sticky bout this that its meant to be .98v ? Is .98 volts at throttle closed to suit all v8,s or just later models?Car is an eb series 2 fairmont 5.0

Err... same diff i believe.
TPS needs to be < 1v at idle, that's the key.

Just got off the phone to ford, .70 v and 4.4 v wot,so what diference would mine make if its slightly higher, would it be geting more fuel than it needs? my car actually runs very well and gets about 14.7-14.9 litres per hundred km

Pretty sure they are to be set at 0.98v @ idle to give a slightly better throttle response. Have set mine to 0.98v and a few mates cars to the same and have all worked well.
That setting is definately for all e-series i know that.

If mine is set at .80 would setting it at .98 give it more or less fuel?

Dont know exactly if it'd give more fuel, i think the MAF plays the biggest part in the amount of fuel dumped in, although the TPS should have some input into the fuel side of things i would think. Set it at .98v and see what happens.

Is it auto or manual?

Set it at .98v and see what happens. Agreed. TPS voltage in the context of fuel calcs are typically for enrichment under acceleration. i.e. looks at the rate of change in TPS volts, if it's changing quickly then the ECU knows that the driver has sunk the boot in. As brad has eleuded to it probably plays more of a noticeable role in shift calcs for the auto trans.

If the voltage is wrong, IE to low, then the auto holds gears longer and wont kick down. When mine was out, it was a pig to drive, but set at .9v and the car changed. The only reason mine was out was the change to 65mm TB, with the stock 58 and stock electrics it was all good.

Yeah its auto, kicks down no worries and goes very well. The only reason i asked was because i thought it might help it go even better.Im still not sure about adjusting it and was thinking while its going good i should maybe just leave it.Im more worried that if i adjust it the fuel economy will get worse.

You can always adjust it and if you lose economy then change it back?

The reason the idle voltage needs to be under 1v is because if you're over 1v the EEC thinks it's in part throttle mode. This is the number one cause of rolling idle and stalling after people have modified their engine because they crack the blade open further to gain a higher idle but don't realise they must elongate TPS holes to enable the correct setting. This causes the EEC to see part throttle mode when it's actually idling so the ISC control becomes erratic. The three modes are; idle mode = less than 1v Part throttle mode = 1v to 3.7v (WOT breakpoint is 2.7v which you add your idle voltage to) WOT mode = anything over 3.7v Bringing your TPS voltage to 0.98v is just a way getting as close to 1 volt without going over therefore reducing the delay in time from idle mode to part throttle mode. The performance is greater. TPS does not in itself control fuel it is only a means for the EEC to look at certain maps that apply to that mode. In idle and part throttle modes the EEC will look at closed loop maps for fuel and spark. If load exceeds 70% or you hit the WOT TPS breakpoint the EEC looks at WOT maps and ignores the HEGO's ie; open loop control. Pete. Here mate, taken from the sticky at the top of the forum. thought it might be of some help.

After reading this, I got curious and had a look at mine. Idle was at 1.43V. I have a hybrid setup with an E series twin TPS on a explorer 65mm throttle. I had to machine a fair bit of the TPS to get the correct voltage but I can tell you that since I did this, my car really launches hard!!

Good news mate. It's amazing how many little cost free things you can do these engines to get that little bit extra out of them.

Seems to be slightly more responsive since i changed it this morning,i drilled out the holes a bit bigger but could only manage to get it to fluctuate between .97/.98.Should be fine though and seems to be running a bit smoother at idle although it might just be me haha.Going to the drags 2nite to test out my extractors so ill see how it goes.
