Trick Flow EL |

Well initially I put on the TFS Twisted Wedge heads, street inlet manifold and 1.7 rockers on my auto EL2 XR8 with a cat back exhaust.
The first thing that I noticed was there was more power from 3000rpm through to 5500.I did lose some torque down low and after 2 years I swapped the inlet manifold back to the explorer and now there is a heap more torque at low revs and no change in power at high revs. There is a pic of my Canberra dyno run in my gallery. With the TFS heads, you need roller rockers, longer, hardened pushrods, taller rocker covers if you use TFS rockers,a phenolic spacer to raise the upper manifold to clear the taller rocker covers(unless you use Crane gold roller rockers as their posi locks are not as tall as the TFS rockers) The GT40 option will work out cheaper than the TFS option as you do not need the more expensive rockers, phenolic spacer, longer, harder pushrods and taller rocker covers. The advantage with the TFS heads are lighter weight and better flow. Hope this helps you out.

so you aint loosing much power at all, using the explorer manifold or gt40p heads. A guy is selling gt40p heads with valves and springs for 1200ono, think this is reasonable? They're off a au2 fairlane. or invest in an au2 xr8 engine for 2250 and sell my el 5ltr?
Thanks |

In that case...The latter....
However the complete TFS package should yield around 200 or so rwkw...Including 76mm maf

im still on my P's, so the xr8 engine swap i can't do bcoz of insurance. I am going the gt40p's, with edelbrock performer or explorer manifold. i am getting the crane 2030 cam with 1.6 rockers. What other parts do i need to make my top end complete - like springs, valves etc?
also, would i get any money at all from selling my e7's and manifold, or its not worth it? Thanks a lot |

I'd imagine no one would buy E7 heads and HO manifold. Better used as paper weights as other have suggested.. If you had nothing better to do, you could attack them and do a home port jobby for fun.

Now that im going ahead with the top end build, where can i get the job done around melbourne? anyone know of any engine builders that can do this and can give good and honest info, and ideally know the windsor engines? any hints on the price tag of this job - heads, manifold, cam, springs etc?
Thanks |

Heve herd about an holley manifold thats mates to the stock upper. as apearently the ho lower is the main restriction. only found a small article on this and the listing on the holley website. I understand the manifold will be less than $500 and would be very hard to pick. but I havn't seed any comparrisons of it if anyone's used it or herd about it I'm interested.

Thats for the truck type inlets and holley face towards driver...They are not isometrical like Fords,Edel, TFS etc intakes...

I was looking at the truck one and see what you mean but the one I'm talking about uses the stock ho upper so it must be symetrical here's a link below check it out. It looks good but I havn't found any flow figures on it.

Hmmm I'd say very small power gains?? Either E.L ll and latter inlets would be better...
An Edelbrock Performer is the least obvious especially if you grind name off...The are copies of manifods from China for around $500 new.... Typhoon

do u think an au 5ltr out of a ute would be a worthy power up replacement rather than my stock el 5ltr? anyone know what kw rating the au's had, 185kw? thinking of buying this engine rather than getting gt40p heads, manifold. or just wait around for an au xr8 series 2/3 engine to pop up, they had 200kw engines?

Depends on what it costs you..The Au has the Gt40P heads..Even though they are 180 kw..The 200kw has roller rockers and better cam etc...If you are happy with that or the 200 kw then thats o/k but if you intend to to modify then I would go the AUl with 180 kw port heads, lower inlet alittle, 2031[1.72 rockers]2030 [1.60 rockers] cam and possibly better/ bigger maf..Pro-m...With good exhaust...Then should have atleast or close to 180 rwkw....
