Does anyone know where i can purchase the trickflow kit for an el 5ltr? I also need a place around melbourne metro to fit it aswell. I am leaning towards this kit rather than buying the gt40 heads and explorer manifold bcoz of the postings in this forum. But anyone who has a trickflow kit on their 5ltr or gt40 etc and has any feedback about it, i would like to hear it b4 i buy.
Thanks

i have about $3500 of which i would like a new top end. If i can get a trickflow kit for about 3000, or go the way you are goin via the afr's etc. that would be good. Which could i get more power out of, if i decide i want more power later on? Can you extract more power out of the trickflows. I would rather buy everything at once; hence the trickflow kit would be ideal for me to start off with, as i've never mod at car b4.

Thanks

I don't think you will get the trickflow kit for $3500, most australian prices I have seen are over $5k while importing brings it down to $4-4500 from memory.

i got a quote from high performance world in sydney for the trickflow kit they quoted 4750 for parts.

as for what i was quoted with the afr heads etc it was about 2600 for parts + 10% gst + frieght of say $500 which i think is a bit generous u will be looking at around $3400 into australia, which is quite resonable considering the afr heads are around 3200 in australia.

search around the net for a trusted exporter and u will get morefor your money for sure.

cheers

so i'll either have to save more or just buy the gt40 heads and better manifold. This is probably the cheaper option but can i extract good power out of these heads?
Thanks

If you are planning on running hte 5L and not stroking it then GT40Ps will get you similar results as they flow quite well. If you go stroker then the extra flow of the trickflows or AFRs will come in handy. It all depends onhow much power you want.

like edxr8 said depends what power u want, i want around 200rwkw so gt40's wont handle that , look at it this way it might be cheaper in the short term but it might become dearer in the long term if you want to get more power or blow it u wil need new heads

ill send a comparison of heads next post

cheers

GT40Ps max out at around 200rwkw but thats getting close to the max streetable 5L anyway. AFRs or trickflows will only give you 210-220rwkw max on a 5L, but on a stroker engine the difference will become much greater.

Your maths is a bit out on the importing.

((Parts + Shipping) * 1.1 Duty) * 1.1 GST. $500 shipping probably isnt as generous as you think. Perhaps someone with experience shipping intakes and heads could shed some light on shipping costs from the US.

So AUD$2600 before shipping and taxes for the BBK SSI and a pair of AFR 165's, eh?

I have ED Fairmont 5.0l Auto E7 heads.
- so far I have added Edlebrock Performer manifold, BBK 70mm TB & EGR spacer, hitech extractors hi flow cats and 3" exhaust.
Will get 75mm ProM MAF but not sure about 24lb injectors.

I want to keep it a 5.0l with about 300fwkw. Is it possible with GT40P or is it worth the cost to go to AFR165's.
I dont want to loose toomuch bottom end.

Any ideas?

A mob over here just done a budget 347 build up using GT40 heads. Managed to get them to flow to 550hp. They fitted larger 1.94" intake valves, and ground the s**t put of em

"final flow figures were 245cfm at 700-thou valve lift (tested in 25inches of water) or around 552hp potential" PSC mag

richie, they guys out at allfast torque converters have a car producing about that power with standad stroke. Maybe give them a call? (unless of course thats you :P )

Thats the sort of thing I like to hear, Jase. I know the GT40P's are up to the task of creating some pretty fair power for a very fair price.

I beleive they could take the average Joe to maximum 5L streetable performance for a good price. If you want more than 200RWKW, start looking forced :)

so the best way for me, as i don't want a stroker engine, is the gt40 heads with a good manifold. i can pick up the heads for $1000, but any ideas on manifold prices - edelbrock performer, rpm? Still in need for a place in melbourne metro to do the job for me aswell. Also, what sort of cams are the gt40 head owners using? The crane 2031? Thanks for the help!

Crane 2030 or 2031 depending on the rocker ratio you have. I would go with the 2030 and 1.6's if you don't have the rockers yet as it is a bit more aggresive. Also the TFS1 is a great cam, probably a bit more power but rougher idle.

For the intake, you can go for the AU explorer if you find one cheap (they flow quite well) or the edelbrock performer for around $1100 would be my pick.
