Hi guys. I have an au xr8 ute. Looking at giving it a few more kw's. Ive come across a trickflow street burner manifold to suit ef/el. I know it will fit au but are the gt40 heads same ports etc as ef. And do the ef style work as well as the au style. Also is anyone using these manifolds or know much about them like how much power gain to expect. Any help is appreciated guys

Your stock Explorer intake is much better, don't waste your money.

But how much do you lose down low? Thats the real question.

Over the stock E series manifold, not over the Explorer manifold. your going to be wasting your money. better of getting some more coin together and looking at a set of heads instead. Or put the money you were going to waste on the manifold into a custom tune.If you can't pick up more than 20hp that way, the tuner is s**t.

They are a cheap factory upgrade at best. What's their going rate these days? 400 bucks a pair. If you want to take things further and want to port them then all of a sudden a pair of good alloy heads doesn't seem all that expensive. In fact, depending on how exotic the port job a pair of alloys work out cheaper.
Having said that have a look at the mustang forums in the states. Every second flannelette wearing, bourbon drinking, tobacco chewing redneck has a dremel and does their own port jobs. All with decent results. Lets just day you can still make enough power to split the stock block on ported E7's with the help of done boost. But their year 10 metal work class is very different than hours. They learn how to rebuild engines in school, we have to go to tafe as apprentice mechanics before we are taught how to touch engines. If you are prepared to play with the heads yourself or bolt them on only expecting 400 bucks worth of gains then go for it. If you bolt them on and expect 400hp just like that or if you are prepared to pay 1-2k for a shop to port them then save your cash and go straight for a good set of alloy heads. |

Alloy heads arent really that dear. I can get a set of edelbrock steet heads for 1200 complete. I dunno how well they work on efi but on my carbied 5litrr their awesome. but yeh i was under the impression the gt40 heads where decent....
Yeh gez. Maybe some heads and a keene bell |

GT40P's are good as far as the factory offerings are.
but compared to most sets of alloy heads, they're at the bottom of the pile.

So would a set of afrs or edelbrocks work well with the stock explorer manifold. and obviously id need to cam it. The standard cam would be pointless with those heads yeh?

Yes either of those would work well. Don't discount the stock cam it's pretty good. Depends where you want your power band.
