I rang up Repco for some parts for a service such as Spark plugs, oil filter and leads for my car and they said it'll cost $387 altogether.
Does that sound about right?

Check that the ticking noise isn't coming from the left hand front guard. The AU 5.0s were prone to 'ticking' from the purge solenoid on the charcoal canister which is in this guard.

yeah i was planning to do it my self but the bloke at repco quoted me $17 for filter, $23 each for spark plugs and $186 for new leads.
I thought it was kinda high just for service parts. I got the same parts for my Eef xr6 for $130 or so.

it actually is coming from the left hand side. is it a serious problem or is there anything that can be done about it?

You can wrap the canister in insulation, it just needs to stop the rattling

$23/plug is obviously for iridiums. these generally are meant to last upwards of 100000km's but i've used them and i doubt they give any power benefit, so if plugs are easy to get to it might be just as easy to get normal plugs and change them more often. cost will be about the same in the long run so up to you in the end.
i'm pretty sure you could source leads for a better price than that as well but once again leads should last up around 50000km as well so its a huge cost up front but shouldn't need to spend that again for a few years depending on how many km/year you do.

Unless you're paranoid about getting 10mm leads, just get some 8mm ones, they'll set you back about $60 a set. Spark plugs, for normal NGK ones, will be $4 or less per plug, so $32 all up there. Oil filters wont be more than $10 a pop. Oil could be anywhere from $20 to $70 for 5litres.
If you want a fuel filter, they should be about $20 as well. If that guy at Repco is charging those kinda prices, i'd enquire at another store nearby, cause thats pretty damn expensive for everything he quoted you there. |

yeah that Repco place sounded like a rip off!
Is there anything i need to look out for when doing a service on the Au xr8? ive only done it on my other cars and they were all 6's.

Nope nothing else to do other what you can do already.
The plugs will be a bit harder to get to, and may take an hour or so, if you've never done them before. Apart from that, the oil filter is the same, the fuel filter should be too. The leads should be s**t easier to change though! Pretty easy to do if you've done it all before anyway. |

The AU leads are a bit different with the coil pack connectors, i spose this could cause them to be a bit more expensive for a while as you couldnt use a normal lead from any other set.
