Its more than likely the reason they havent done it is cost and hassles.
There are ADR's that have to be met and also fuel emissions which would make it to plain difficult. After all that if they do manage to get the green light it would cost over $100k for sure when you take out costs of developing and testing. There were plans for a 7 litre monaro (427ci) a few years ago for a limited run of 200 cars. And despite the cashed up orders and a price tag of around $200.000 they canned it as the bar for standards were just too high for something outrageous. Saying that there are turbo and twin turbo kits available for the ls1 and it'll be a matter of who and when they will take the plunge with the overly bulky 5.4. Not much space there but someone will have a go.

I have seen two different set-ups for a twin turbo BOSS motor, one is like the one at the nats were the turbos are up front pretty much were the air box and battery used to be and the second is where the turbos are set back near/next to the gearbox.
I know of a Twin Turbo GT-P that has run a 12.1 down the 1/4 mile and that was its first run i think with more tuning and ironing out the cresses to get it 100% right Griffo

A low mount requires a separate sump and pump to feed oil turbo's.. As they are too low for oil to return to engine sump. The electric pump they use is from gear box / diff oil pumps used for cooling trans oil on circuit cars...
Here's a twin turbo set up with two Precision SC61/2's 680 h.p each.. With tuff as nails Dart block...Believe it or not it fits in EB engine bay... Another angle...

Is it just me, or have they reversed the pic there?? The SS badges seem to be the wrong way around?? I honestly would expect a little more than a 70 kw at the engine gain if I fitted a charger to something that already has the power. Its not like it's pumping next to no boost either. 7psi isn't exactly low for a +ve displacement (agreed it's not overly high either).

It is in the latest Motor mag (I think) on the cover, and in the article it says something along the lines of 370kw ar the engine.

For a 383 cube (6.0 litre) V8 forced with 7 psi boost that is pitifull to say the least. If that is the future of factory performance just give up and let the aftermarket do their thing.

I think the issue with most turbo v8 installations is room and plumbing. It is very difficult to get a single turbo spooled up evenly from both manifolds and fitting a twin turbo option makes issues for both plumbing and space.
I expect that we will never see a twin turbo v8 vehicle from the factory (ford or holden anyway....who knows what the crazy japs and germans will come up with). Would be nice to see tho.....

There would be NO issue with balance on single turbo... Its just that turbo's make s**t loads torque which destroys transmissions.. It would be easier for car manu to build just a bigger engine... For example 10 Lb boost on 5.0 makes 300 rwkw and 800 fLb torque....

Is that with the stock cam and unported E7 heads or is there a little bit more involed than that.
And yeah TTV8's would be bad for warranty claims. Factory would have to go back to fitting old school non electronic 3 speed auto's and clunky truck boxes cause the modern units just can't cop so much torque all the time. The odd squirt here and there maybe, but in the hands of a hoon no way it would last and no way would the company want to pay for a rebuild out of their own pockets every fortnight. |
