i know bpt make a set. has anyone actually installed them on an ef el xr8 and what where your results like with gain in power

yeah i have the bpt set.
power increase isnt much at all but it will rev quicker witch is where you notice the difference.

def a good bang for buck mod on the old windsor.

I dont run them but i have heard mixed comments, some good some bad.Mainly to do with the alt not charging or overheating in summer.
I have heard more good than bad though.

You won't overheat in summer if your cooling system is ok. Your battery will charge when you're driving, just not at idle. Power gains are to be had, but it just feels like it revs quicker.

Mega thread mine here....

But on the serious side: What pulleys are good to get? There are heaps on eBay and seem to be good bang for your buck, but i remember someone saying the mustang ones have to be modified to fit on our 302's?

Can you make it so it DOES charge the battery while idling, or is this a compromise for having the pulleys?

ive got the BPT set and ive had no trouble at all. they have been on there for atleast 2 years and never had a flat battery or over heated.

yeah some of the mustang ones need some machine work done to make them fit, not sure if that goes for all mustang sets or not. XH5LWEPN did this a while ago if i remember right, dont think its much work.

Did you have to do any work on the BPT's? I'm wanting a set i can just chuck in and drive, no bull s**t about. Where did you buy them and at what cost?

The ones from BPT will not need machining. I got mine from BPT. Have a look at their website for pricing as I bought mine in 2004 and no doubt the price has changed.

thats the reason i got them, nice and easy.

mind you these are still just a mustang set that has already had the machining done, pretty sure i heard that somewhere ages ago.

got them from BPT motor sport in W.A. site sponsor and i paid $250 odd i think.
you could do it lots cheaper than that with a mustang set and get the machining done yourself but at the time that was too hard for me.

Just thought about that, i had a look on their site, $285 :shock: There are billet ones on evil bay for $65. I may as well just get them and have them machined.

I have the race series from BPT but only use two of the pullies on my engine. The one for the alternator had a lip on it and considering that in addition to not charging properly at idle with the underdrive alt pulley fitted, I decided to leave it off.
That alt pulley is now an expensive paperweight.

These here are extremely cheap.... bringing me to the conclusion to stay away from them, but how good could could they be? What part of the pulley needs machining, as the US 302's have two types, the 95 model has the larger hole in the middle and the 86-93 model has the smaller hole in the middle.

my bpt race series set bolted straight on.
i didnt install the alternator one as it seemed basically the same size as the factory one.
it doesnt fully charge at idle but as soon as you take off full charge no dramas.
may consider selling the set soon if anyone is interested.
