Hi all,
Has anybody bought a set of Underdrive Pulleys for their 5.0L Falcon?
I'm looking at getting a set but am trying to decide wether it's worth getting the race or street series.
I've been looking at BPT Motorsports and it's for the EL series Falcon.
Thanks.

I've got a chrome set on my 5.0L and it's well worth it (and not just for looks lol). Decent performance gain for the money.

This is on their website;

What do Under drive Pulleys do? Under drive pulley systems increase engine horsepower by reducing the amount of power required to drive external engine accessories. For example, the alternator, power steering, water pump and air-conditioning compressor rob horsepower from the engine. By replacing factory-sized crank and accessory drive pulleys with a resized pulley, the accessories are slowed, resulting in more horsepower available to the drive wheels. Typically, a set of pulleys from B.P.T. will increase power by 9 - 11kW's, and increase mileage. All pulleys are manufactured from Billet steel and aluminum, exceeding factory quality. All pulleys sets are fully neutral balanced at the factory.

No probs, here are the prices;

Falcon BA 5.4L street series $330.00
Falcon BA 5.4L race series $480.00
Falcon EB-EL 5.0L street series $225.00
Falcon EB-EL 5.0L race series $280.00

From what I can gather the race series gives a little more power because they slow down the components as described earlier, so a good alternator is essential to keep enough charge up.

bptmotorsport.com

I can't see the pulleys being hard to install, not sure about the cost of a new alternator, not sure if the stock ones are good enough and will power steering be harder, a/c be not as affective etc etc?
These are the questions I'd like answered before I say yes or no to buying the pulleys.

The street ones are probably 15%, the race ones 25%.
Supposedly the Ford auxilaries don't have any problems even with 25% under drive pulleys, alot of people have them.
Talk to BPT if you have any concerns, although I'd say the 'race' series would be fine, even with stock alternator etc.

I noticed a big improvement all over the rev range, although obviously the more revs the more power you will gain from them. I just had the street kit as the race kit had not been made yet and I highly recommend them. You will see a decrease in voltage at idle but unless you have a crappy battery or sit there idling for ages with headlights or big stereos running it wont be an issue. Installation is straight forward, the street kit takes maybe 15mins to install while the race one won't be all that much more (you will need a rattle gun for the alternator pulley on the race kit though). Oh and if you weren't aware, the street kit is just a smaller crank pulley while the race consists of a crank, water pump and alternator pulley.
