I dont suppose you sell these roller rockers aswell that people are suggesting do you? I would be enclined to go the 4 piece ones if at all, and i was just wondering what sort of time and price is the installation likely to cost. Might as well do it all at once and do the roller rockers as well as these underdrive pulleys if i have to get the chip remapped anyway. Is there any real problem with underdriving the water pump and alternator by these 14 & 22%? I had some 1.72 roller rockers for sale but I ended up selling them at a loss - VPW have the best price on them that I have ever seen( www.vpw.com.au ). Installation of the underdrive pulley set should only take 1/2hr on an EL as you don't have the engine driven fan to contend with. If you have access to a 1/2" drive rattle gun, air compressor and a 15/16" socket - you should be able to do it at home with no problems at all. We checked Barry_V's car when we installed the Ford Racing set on his and found we had full charge by around 1600rpm. The EB/ED 5.0's would be more inclined to have cooling problems with the engine driven fan but the EF/EL's have the computer controlled thermo's which will cool the radiator no matter what rev's you are doing. do u have underdrive pulleys for au v8 motors that give the same gains as on the ef-el motors

Samsy - how'd you go with fitting that pulley? Did you need a hand doing it or are you certain you want to sell it. No I didnt end up fitting it! Havent touched the car really since the day I saw u! Been busy with other things. If someone wants to buy it its here!

regards from adam The AU/Explorer motor uses an intergral harmonic ballancer and crankshaft pulley and the one people who make these units are Ford themselves. I have been onto March and ASP (who make the pulleis Batterns sell) and neither of them are interested in making them. Unfortunately - until one of the mainstream manufacturers starts making them the AU guys will be without this product. Shane

{USERNAME} wrote: Mr Landau, do the underdrive kits affect the power steering by much or not at all?
I have one of Shane's underdrive sets on my car and the power steering is fine, still enough assistance at idle, and when you are on the road there is no difference.

I think that I read somewhere that some underdrive kits can cause the power steering to be a little stiffer at low RPM.
Aaron, the ASP website lists the single underdrive pulley that BPT sells as 25% underdriven on everything. The Ford Racing kit is only 22% on the altenator and 14% on the waterpump - this is using larger than stock alternator and waterpump pullies. The crankshaft pulley you have is much smaller than the Ford Racing set fitted to Barry_V's Love boat DC.
Shane
Ah ok, I wasn't sure on the size of the FRPP crank pulley. Vic - There isn't a difference in steering effort, having wider tyres, or slightly under-inflated tyres will make a lot more of a difference than the pulley. Regarding the AU harmonic balancer issues, could you bolt an e-series style balancer and pulley onto an AU motor, and use they pullies that way? |

Tbh it should be made a sticky as theres no real guide for e series V8's, i suppose the search button works but it would be good to have a guide.

I installed the BPT 3 piece set a few years ago, I think it's a worthwhile gain with no major side effects apart from low voltage at idle, which cures itself above 1500rpm, the motor revs freer & smoother with the pulleys on...

Hi All,
Does anyone know what the effect is (if any) of an underdrive system when using the airconditioner, let's say, on an EB V8? Since that pulley has not been changed, its drive should not be affected, but has anyone noticed any appreciable increase of operating temp when running the air conditioner? Odd thing: Some people here swear by underdrives, but others say they are not necessary. Will.
