Ok, guys and Girls, if you check my photo's in the members gallery, you will see my cold air intake, but you will also see a set of MR Landau's Fabulous FRP underdrive Pulleys. These are a very good first mod. The difference can really be felt low in the rev range. The only downside so far is that the car needs 1600rpm to charge, so dont get caught idling in traffic for too long
Enjoy

Did yoiur alternator pulley come off easily or did you have to pull it apart also..

It came off easily when cracked with a rattle gun. Took less than 10 mins total for the complete change over( This was done with the car still hot from driving to get the altenator cracked)
Lol

The EF/EL's sem to be far easier to do the work on - I am not sure if they used less loctite on the bolts but all the EF/EL's seem to come off easy.
The EB/ED's with their clutch fan makes life a little more interesting. When I took all my pulleys off to take the original measurements I had them off, measured and on again in 30mins. Shane

What are the differences between the EF/EL pulleys and the EB/ED ? Is it just the clutch fan?
The clutch fan has already been replaced with a set of EL thermo fans in my EB.. So would I possibly be looking at a set of EF/EL pulleys ? I'm not too worried about it not charging under 1600. I guess it would be a problem if you had a big stereo, s**t battery, with the wipers and headlights on in a traffic jam for over an hour. There's always neutral and a bit of right foot to fix the problem anyway I'd imagine with a good battery (mm.. yellowtop!) and no notable electrical accessories, the car should last a couple of hours at idle.

Has anyone had a dyno teset before and after Underdrive pulleys? Interested in getting a set when i get back from over seas, but just wanna know what sort of gains you get from this mod.

My guess is that if these guys are feeling a difference, maybe 7-10RWKW.
I think they're claimed to give anywhere between 5-15RWKW... i guess it all depends how much your accessories are holding back your engine. Maybe Martin could try underdriving his blower.. free the engine up a bit

Lol, martin will be doing no such thing I would hope the boost created outweighs the parasitic drain.... Spose would be interesting to underdrive alt, water pump... blower and p/s live on their own belt with own crank pulley etc. BTW i think shane's gtech read somewhere in the vicinity of 20hp on Darin (fairmont1998) 's beast... but im sure one of the lads could clarify...

How am I sposed to get these hard bolts off if i dont have a rattle gun?
I thought these were easy swap, now im hearing stuff like the tensioner is a b**ch to tighten n the bolts are loctited on, sounds like a pain in the a***!

{USERNAME} wrote: What are the differences between the EF/EL pulleys and the EB/ED ? Is it just the clutch fan?. The difference between the two sets is the alternator pulley - the EB/ED alternator sits on a shoulder and the EF/EL has a reduced diametre that goes into the alternator housing. The difference on the install is definately the clutch fan on the EB/ED. {USERNAME} wrote: The clutch fan has already been replaced with a set of EL thermo fans in my EB.. . The crank and water pump pulleys are the same - so if you were using an EF/EL alternator on youe EB/ED you would need an EF/EL kit. Shane

SADesign have a book called "5.0 Ford Dyno Test" which has a chapter including the March underdrives on a 93 mustang. They tested a stock HO motor and a well worked Cobra motor. The stocky made an extra 7kw and picked up power and torque across the whole rpm range and the hotty picked up 15kw (from memory) Shane
