Wanting to upgrade my alt on my eb v8 ghia, had thermos fitted a few months back and have now just started using the a/c.Normally when the thermos cut in the volts drop to 13 on the gauge but now with the thermos running all the time with the a/c on the volts drop to roughly high 11,s or just under 12 volts. My question is this, can i put in an alt off an ef/l v8 ghia to fix my problem, being as they have thermos and a/c fitted as standard.Or will i have to get my alt modified to put out more amps?

EF/EL 5.0 Alternator will bolt straight on. swine is correct; EF is 110 amp and EL is 100 amp.
The EF has and extra couple of diodes to increase output at higher speeds.

would an ef alt make any difference to my voltage drop i get when the aircon and fans are constantly on?im not sure what amps it pulls but its about 3 volts, would the extra 15 amps make a difference?

Yes. It's the reason EF/L's get this alternator in the first place.
