I washed my engine bay and it's fine , just dont directly hose the dizzy or coil or any electrics . I prefer to wait till its cold , I'm not too keen on hosing a hot engine. Just incase something cracks , plus it's steams .

Personally id be pretty careful about where I stuck a hose in a cold engine bay...otherwise you could have troubles...like the car not starting/stopping...ehem. At least if it is room temperature so to speak the heat can evaporate the water quickly....and if you do get water in the wrong place you kinda know where it is....cause thats where you were pointing the hose when it stopped
Common sense needs to prevail...dont go sticking ice cold water on a screaming hot motor. Ive only ever washed down engine bays with a idle temperature motor and NEVER had an issue...but ive spent hours trying to get mates cars going after a cold bath. As for your rain arguement...not sure where you are going with that....id put money on no where near any substantial amount of water getting to the top of the engine (where the electronics are mostly) in the rain, let alone half way up the block

I wash engine bays all the time.
Usually when the car is off and the engine is cold. Mostly there are no issues however occassionally there are some problems; Cars with a dizzy set up seem more prone to not wanting to start after being drenched, for obvious reasons. The only time I have had an issue with coil pack setup is when there is already an underlying issue with coil packs/spark plugs/leads. |

haha forum arguments
anyways my cars a au fairlane so it has the coil pack... pretty much every one i have spoken to says its bad to wash under the engine bay. which i definitely agree with our last ef f**k up big time after washing the engine bay something shorted outin the fuse/relay box which ended up resulting us to get a new ecu i just thought if i didnt wet the electronics directly it would be ok basically the problem now is still bad but getting better sorta the ignition stays on when the battery is conected but when i hit the break it turns off and im able to use the remote key to unlock exetera i think the water has gone into the abs modual and f**k it or maybe the relay has screwed up now im getting an auto electrition thursday to check it out and ill definitely let all u guys so so use dont do dumb s**t like i always do
