Daily driver is my ED 'mont 4l.
The Sprint lives in the carport under a dustcover till the weekend, and then only if the weathers nice. Nothing to do with fuel (it ain't that much worse then the 6), I just love it too much to put it on the western ring road every day. Guys I work with bag the s**t out of me for it, but I would fall apart (literally) if anything every happened to it.

Theres your problem! Nobody else cares about and looks after your car as well as you do! Take back all the keys and buy them a s**t to drive, and you drive the fairlane, rather than the other way around!

A lifetime of owning fast fords has instilled a certain respect in him {USERNAME} wrote: I brought this up because the last couple of weeks i have noticed there is some one at my work that drives a brandnew looking sprint to work, he parks far away in the corner like most of u have said! thanks for the reply's guys, keep em comming!
Yeah, my reasons for not driving it daily are more then just not wanting it damaged. It's kinda loud, and it's either borderline legal, or illegal, depending on which quoted Ford power figure you go by. [edit: forgot all you interstaters, we got a 125kw per ton power to weight limit here in vic for P-Platers...] Also, I never had a manual car to go for license in, so I'm actually only auto licensed. Laziness means I'm just waiting the 12 months till I turn 21 so I can legally drive it solo. It is interesting to see peoples different opinions on this. Let me ask a quick hypothetical. If any of you guys had a low km Sprint, EB GT, or EL GT, would you use it as your daily driver?

Nope, but a low kilometer NL Fairlane? Certainley.

Valid point Another question, simply to satisfy my ego, do people even hold the Sprint in the same regard as the numbered EB and EL GTs?

I hold the GT's in higher regard than I do the Sprint. They have more gear and features which to my mind, makes them more unique than the Sprint. Aesthetics also plays a big part here - the GT's have had some effort put into their external appearance as compared to the Sprint.

As with Vic, hold the GTs higher, but the Sprint very close behind. Sorry but FBT falls inbetween the two.

The Sprint, IMO, is more of a 'fun to drive' car, whereas the GT's attract more attention, and with there prestige would be probably be 'nicer to drive' (200kw in anything is fun of course ). Pro's and cons for both. Anyway, back on-topic, it appears most people are happy to use there 5litres as daily drivers. I would to, they aren't that much (if any) worse on fuel then a mildly modified 6 (Martin and his forced induction being the exception ), and the torque of them certainly makes them easy to putt around in.

I like the FBT's.
Had I seen them in the same light as I see them now, I would have been happy to purchase one back when I was looking for another late model Ford. It was the luxury and that V8 trouser stiffening noise that led me to buy my Ghia - that and the low km's. I'm still up in the air about wanting to own an EL GT if I had the chance... the front grill still bothers me. The rest of the EL GT gets a thumbs up.

I'd have the Sprint over the GT any day.....it's faster and better looking than the GT. Of course I'd stick a 351 in either of them if I had one.
I diagonal park across two bays when I park and I don't care if it gives anyone the s**t! A security guard had a go at me once and told him "the day you can guarantee my car will be in the same condition I left it is the day I'll use only one bay!". And yes, it was about as far away as you could get from anyone else. Pete. |

I may be wrong but dont u buy a car to enjoy. Unless its an XY shaker original and worth moore than than the average house shouldent the thing be enjoyed not stored. I have an EF FAIRMONT GHIA 5.0L series 1 Im led to belive less than 200 were built, dont know for sure, but its a nice classy family crusser and looks good. Cars are ment to be enjoyed not wraped up and pannicked about. I love driving my car weather its to work the shops or quick trip as fast as u can go down the back roads its fun.
