The transmission specialists all say the solenoid switching is reversed in BTR95LE v's BTR97LE ie. 12V = apply v's 12V = release. Seems a common response from several specialists, so it's unlikely to be hearsay. I have been told this several times over a number of years.

I need to switch out the BTR95LE in my test bed to do an EF wiring job, so I'll try running the BTR97LE with the BTR95LE controller when I next run up an earlier EEC4 wiring job.

It would be nice if they do interchange as I have a number of '97's (one from a 1995 EF has a dipstick, and a 1996 NF also had one) that I had relegated to parts-donor status

Looks like myself and EVL098 have proved the "specialists" wrong then doesn't it?

No not yet.

3 specialists have said this to me, two more than once over a few years. I know them all personally, they wouldn't intentionally mislead me. Then there are several people who have tried the swap & failed, only to then install the correct transmission and run properly

But you have floated the idea and I'm keen to investigate & confirm.... I have the opportunity in the next 6 weeks with minimal effort since the test bed transmission swap has to be done anyway (or does it??? the swap should work both ways??? so long as I run the BTR97LE tcm the transmission choice should be irrelevant - right?). The proof for me will be in normal transmission operation without fault codes (which incidentally I would be very happy with)

So you're saying I just made it up?

LOL.

Love this thread.

Do the transmission solenoids run a common earth in the trans or is it taken outside of the trans? - if its taken outside the trans and was plugged in to the opposite controller would all the solenoids still work, just have power going through the opposite way?

I see no issue with that - would explain why it will work fine.

I have a friend in Canberra who got into trouble with me once. All he could quote was "the manual states".... but often the reality of a situation needs a more open view than "the manual states"

Cheers

No, I didn't say that either.

Some of your posts on the forum have been wrong before, and what you're saying goes against several specialists and others direct experience, so I'm saying "OK, I'll check it out". I've been in the game just as long as you and know that taking every piece of info as gospel is a sure way to get into trouble, more so when it contradicts info from several unconnected educated sources. But I have a completely open mind on this. I actually hope you're right for the reasons stated above

Nigel - I haven't looked closely into it. I was always of the understanding it is pointless to try and left it at that, hence my pile of BTR97's. But I'll freely admit I'm no transmission guru

I don't keep a log of them, but there have been a number of clangers.

I make them as well, however I'm keen to learn from mine.

But I don't have the time to waste on continuing this with you. It isn't going anywhere and you're clearly not interested in adding anything helpful or positive. For some bizzare reason you only seem want to have a go.

I'll run some tests in about 6 weeks time and post the results.

ok I'm sorry.... I've learnt from my mistake and I can understand that you will never want to talk to me agoin...oh look I can't even speel properly...my whole world ijs falliing apart!?

Look guy's, I have a confession to make....
When I said I put an EB 95LE in my XG van with an AU EECV(with 1/4 horse for tuning) running the whole show well, I'm sorry, I made it all up.
Look, I'm sorry guys, it's difficult for me, but this post I wrote about it...
5-0-into-xg-t64924.html is all fictitious! I know, I know, I'm sorry... I blame photoshop!
I'm in therapy now, and in my support group we have discussed the two AU's I supposedly worked on...apparently the NC and ED 95LE gearboxes that were used weren't used at all(in fact the AU's may have even been commondoors  ). Now it seems the XE, the EA, the EB's and the EF that used AU boxes didn't use them at all!? Even the XG outback that used one was apparently a bedford van!? Oh the humanity!
So they've got me on a program where I count sheep...apparently this helps the sufferer to see more clearly. The program finishes in about a month or so. They say I'll be completely cured.
Anyway I hope you find it in your heart to forgive me, Please fellow forum members. Please.

Pete what can I say had a good laugh though.... So I guess us running a 93le with a PCM122 can't be done to ..??? oh wait we just did....

this sounds familiar as my so call auto specialist said that you cant run an E series BTR behind a DOHC engine & working with the same ECU, he is good in pulling apart & fixing them but thats all he was intrested in its his business.....Its places like here where guys try there own R&D, experiment, break & put back together & discover what can & dose work where specialits say you cant do it...
