Yeah don't know, unless they count the PS switch - EF stuff is as we know.
Might try these guys: http://www.ebay.com.au/itm/Ford-Falcon- ... 1099792316 I've dealt with them heaps of times, service is great. While in Sydney I have spoken with Uri who does the racks - knows his stuff. Bought the rack seal kits from them.

If I buy any EL type rack, it is variable ratio correct? If so I'll just buy two from them coz the V8 ute rack is on the way out anyway. The a***hole here in perth want more than double that price!?! |

They just replied and said it is NOT variable ratio.
Or is it just that they don't actually know that detail? |

They might be getting confused with SSPS, as it's sometimes referred to Variatronic (something like that) in the commodores. All the EB-EL racks are variable ratio. 3 turns lock to lock, although if you cycle a bare unit, it is actually slightly less, around 2 7/8 turns.

Unless they send you 2 XH racks by mistake
Externally you won't tell the difference, so I'd get a vicegrips, attach to the pinion top and count your lock to lock turns.

Maybe I'll ask them to tell me how many turns before they send it.

Wouldn't be a bad idea - give them a quick explain about the XH and EL racks. You may need to speak to Uri, as the office guys won't know.

As I say, I do have an EL pinion and pinion housing if you need it. You'll need to get onto the phone with them. Actually, $220 no exchange is a good price for a rack, considering seal kit is around $50, inner rack arms $30 a pair, and maybe tierods $35. Rest is labour/testing.

Cheers Snap,
If I did anything with your parts, I'd get you to send them to those guy's to get the whole thing built. Over here they charge about $550 for an Exchange rack!?! |

TBH mate with your ability, you could reco your own racks - the biggest thing is getting a method to stretch and compress the teflon rings on the pinion valve housing, as the tools are tapered tubes. After a couple of broken rings, I found a method - although that meant a wasted seal kit, but having done many racks, It obviously was worth it for me.
Having said that, if you could wait, I'll be up in Sydney in exactly 3 weeks mid week - I could call in and make sure they're sending the correct racks, or drop bits in if needed.
