Hey guys and gals, I have a few questions for the v8 e series ford minded crew!
The story goes my mate has an ef xr8 which he has just driven into a guard rail, so he's wrecking it. Its got the auto box, pretty fresh heads (20000k reco) and the motor has only done just shy of the 200k mark. I have a 98 model XH ute 6 cyl so this is where my questions come in. Will my factory BW manual box bolt to the 5.0L? How hard is it to swap the motor over? Can I use my cross member? Do I just install the harness and computer of the V8? Other things to consider? Is it worth doing? Is turbocharging a better option? If using the manual and V8 will I need a manual v8 ecu? If so is it better to run the auto? I quite like autos I'm affraid that these questions have probably been answered before, I did abit of a search and found lots of info but these are the questions still pending. If there are any links to write ups that would be awesome aswell. Thanks so much in advance

Turbo-Charging the six would be more cost efficient, easier and yeild greater results than trying to convert to a E-series 165kw 5ltr.
Also the gearboxes are not interchangable between the 4ltr and 5ltr. The bellhousing is different and so are the input shaft lengths. Basically if you want a 5ltr your best of selling your ute and buying a factory one.

Yeah I thought that was the case, I was just looking into it because my mate is basically giving the motor away. But that being said I have a turbo and computer sitting in the shed. CBF factor in the way still lol.

s**t!...just swap everything from the V8 into the 6cyl car, piece-o-piss and cheaper than the turbo6.
If you want a manual swap in a V8 T5 if not use the auto ....you can get away with using the auto EEC with a manual with some minor "tricks" Leave your K-member in...you only need the V8 mounts. Then put the turbo on the V8! What a bargain! |

If absolutely everything is available, it's doable, and possibly worth it, especially if that turbo is big enough to fit onto the v8 down the track. I've got a EB Ghia I6 with a 5spd, and just picked up a pair of Xr8 5spd EB's, one i was going to wreck, but won't now. I was considering the swap, but the Xr8's panel damage is easier to fix than to do the swap in my case.
Cheers ToranaGuy
