Will 6Cylinder T5 be strong enough to suit 302 EFI?

It's a shame you were all the way down there in Port Lincoln Robbo. I'd gladly take one of your 6cyl T5s and put it into my 5.0L wagon. Love to have it manual again just for the acceleration compared to the BTR.

wrong - looked it up and all E series were just WC T5s; different gearing.

I had an EA box behind my 5.0L for about 4 years without a hitch. Left the automatic dead in the performance stakes too but if you felt nasty you could kill it in a heartbeat!

If I remember correctly the I6s use a standard T5 while V8s have T5Zs which are stronger boxes. I think the whole conversion kits are a lot cheaper from wreckers these days so you're better off getting the whole kit in one go instead of trying to piece it all together. It's not a cheap/easy conversion but get it right the first time I say.

Interesting. I will have to have a look at what the T5's are in my Xr8's & compare them to the T5 behind the I6 in my Eb Ghia.

Conversions for the V8's to 5spds are not what i'd call cheap these days, but yes they are probably getting cheaper as they get older. I bought a whole Xr8, with some engine work, mod chip, 5speed (factory) and LSD diff, lowered, slotted & drilled front rotors, slotted rears, and a few other nice bits from the auctions with a little panel damage for less than the price of a 5speed conversion. Panel work is almost finished, then i can put it in for a rwc check.

I didn't think there was any real difference in the gearboxes except the input shaft length, bellhousing, and the clutch setup.

Cheers

Pretty sure only the Sprint and GT had different ratios.

The Au's got the T5Z's, the previous XR8's just got a normal WC T5.

The ratio changes with the XF/EA and EBII onwards I6 T5's are done by a tooth difference on the input shaft and it's meshing countergear teeth - the rest of the gearteeth on the countergear, and the mainshaft and extension housing gears are the same.
The pre T5Z V8 transmissions might achieve different ratios the same way. So it may be a case of fitting a V8 input shaft, coversleeve and countergear to an I6 box (checking preload) - might be a realistic option if you can source them for decent $$$, and also the clutch components, bellhousing, etc.
Be interesting to compare. I've still got all my spares from a stripped down EA T5.
