Tell me please...
I've only owned my DF for 5 months and the car has very low k's. I haven't driven it all that much and i'm currently on a road trip for work which has highlighted a 'pinging' problem when the car is travelling at 100km and i put my foot down to overtake the transmission kicks down a gear and off we go but she starts to ping as those revs get up to around 4-5,000 and whilst i'm not into driving my car any harder than whats necessary i'd like to know if this is typical of a Ford 5.0L V8 in a 95 DF Series 1 LTD? Note: I only every fill the tank with priemium 98 percent octane fuel; which i would have thought would help to eliminate this problem, but apparently not. Any thoughts ???? |

I really didn't think it was leads on account of the fact that she still has power to all cylinders whilst pinging. I back off the gas because i don't want to do any harm to the engine but it feels as though she's got plenty more go in her if i was to excellerate some more. Certainly not misfiring...

Certainly not misfiring... as its run in -timming,91 or 95,98 is over kill, standing for 5 months the fuel may be off.it may go better when better when you can top up 1\2 a tank.

btw it aint normal, I've got a 5.0 NF and never had pinging, but mine is lpg or on petrol ?I only use premium as minimum, only problem I've had is with the harmonic balancer slipping due to rubber middle section giving up.

mmmmmm
Well yes i guess it has to be a timing issue. The thing is it doesn't ping unless i push it hard, so that tells me the timing's right except in that instance. But being and EFI (computer controled engine) isn't the timing advanced electronically or is there a vacuum timing advance unit attached to the dizzy that i need to look at? |

Thats what i thought...
So do i need to disconnect anything to check the base timing or can i do it at idle with a warm motor and the air-con swithched off? |

Thanks for that Hans.
I went there and finished up here: http://sbftech.com/index.php/topic,7114.0.html Which gave me all i need to know in order to adjust my engines timing. I'll have a crack at it this weekend and so if that puts and end to my troubles. Thank you to all that contributed. |
