Hey Fordmods,
Just wondering if anyone new of the difficulty swapping a AU XR8 motor to a XR6 motor (or even just a bog stock straight six) , I know it sounds like a weird thing to do but just wondering if its possible, and if so how hard it would be to do? Would things like engine mounts and wiring harnesses be the same or would i be in for a world of trouble doing this? Thanks for the feedback . Oh k thanks wtbdlltd, yer the information ive found doesnt seem to useful though as its hard to tell what would be needed if it were done in reverse to I6 to V8,

Sell the V8 and buy a 6. Cheaper and easier and you might have some extra cash.

Its in a very unique car so its not really an option, the car im buying is a V8 but i will be on my p-plates for 4 years so it will be illegal, the car is a ford mustang with an AU V8, im wondering if it would be possible to put in a straight six, temporarily or indefinitely. Thanks for the feedback everyone

Well then why buy the V8 if you can't drive it?

How old is it? - By AU V8, do you mean it has an actual australian delivered AU in it, or do you mean it has the equivalent engine from Aus in it.
If your interested in pulling the V8 out of it, and its an older car you have quite a few options open to you, but Im not sure if any of them require an engineer. You can probably put a 4.1 Crossflow engine in fairly easily - the US 6 cyls are fairly similar, and lots of guys get good power out of the crossflow. You wouldnt have to worry about going EFI if the mustang is an early one, run a carby etc and it would work out easy. You could put an EB 4.0 in there (pre smartlock) fairly easily - if you got an EB S2 Pre Smartlock (1DCC ECU or similar) you culd get the whole 4 speed auto in with not too much EFI Wiring. Its about how much you want to do. none of it is going to be just drop and swap in. Nigel |

I believe it is just a Australian built Falcon AU XR8 Engine that has been put into the mustang, im wondering if it would be difficult to replace this with a straight six due to the fact ill be on p-plates for four years from now.

Oh thanks for the info Ash, umm yer thats what i was originally planning to do but the left hand to right hand drive conversion was going to cause problems we thought and the cost of doing so too high, i know i can keep it left hand drive but i would really prefer not to, as would the parents lol

i just spoke to a few mates who drive v8s on their p's
They went to motor reg and got a exemption and they got it fine aslong as they dont have any offences against their name. So i would be given them a call and see how you go |
