I am getting vibrations between 1000 - 1500 RPM's.
Got told it could be any number of things. Engine mounts, auto transmission mount & also some other nasty stuff that i particularly did not want to hear about. My question is which engine mount is best for my V8 Lane? |

At that RPM i'd go Harmonic Balancer. They tend to cause issues around the 1200-1300rpm mark.
Does it happen in neutral aswell as in gear?

I would suggest engine mounts as well especially if you have over 180K on the clock. As you are from Roxby Downs the added bouncing and stress from a large engine over your roads would have helped to cause the mounts to wear faster than normal. At the same time replace the gearbox mount. The front mounts are not cheap but it definitely points to mounts first. I knew a guy who used to work at Leyland in Enfield and they road tested some of the XJ12 series around your area in the mid to late 80's and he told me that they picked that area and a few in NSW because of the stress and strain the roads put on the suspension and drivelines. Good luck.

Good luck. yeh i see your point & i was going to do the rear trans mount along with the L/H engine mount (Apparently for some reason the L/H side goes more often than the R/H). In regards to the roads in Roxby they are quite better now. They are very smooth & drivable. I just carted a 6x4 trailer with my lane & had about 700KG load (Trailer & inside the car/boot) & i must admit i had no problems with road bumps etc even at 100KM/H. |

ruled out the engine mount(s) thanks to the guys at Athol Park Wreckers.
Will try replacing the rear housing mount from the automatic & see if that solves the problem. |

Harmonic Balancer.
Very very common to f**k out on the 5.0. Get a Ross powerbond and be done with it.

Ross is the company that makes the Powerbonds.

Should i also change the front main seal (Since the HB will be off)? thx SL I've got a fairly cheap one(bout $40) that my mates tried to destroy by using it without having taken the washer out from the balancer and it works fine. It's a good idea to change the seal but in either case make sure you lube the balancer snout and the seal itself so it doesn't destroy itself when you start it up. Unless you have a tool to fit the seal with the timing cover on the engine it's going to be fun getting it to go on straight. |
