Recently bought a 05 XR8 BA. Looking to fit Vortech V2 non intercooled centrifugal blower to it. Looking at CAPA kit. I would expect 310-340rwkw with this setup. Im not interested in the PD superchargers due to cost.

I have a few questions

1. Will the boss 260 motor have any sort of reliability with adding a supercharger. Do i need to budget for a rebuild shortly after?

2. will this car be capable of a 11 second quarter mile with this setup (assuming i can drive). its a 6spd manual.

3. Will camsinstead of a supercharger add similar performance. is there a noticable difference between this low boost blower vs the cams. Cams would be cheaper but would they offer near enough the benefits.

cams wont add anywere near the power of a charger.

the motor should be fine as its preety low boost.

11s... no.

i have heard of a few unopened bolt on cars run a high 11. sure they are weight reduced.

but i would be upset if a charger didnt take it into the low 12s..

Get the intercooled kit to be safe and then you can wind it up a bit. If it doesn't get you 11's there's something wrong or you have no traction(highly likely:).

These engines RESPOND WELL to any forced induction...
Use a blower which is efficient which doesn't heat the air ...

Is the vortech efficient? Or is it a air heater?

Does it mean gotta back off after some spirited driving?

The new boss 335 does not have an intercooler?

The Vortech is quite efficient but, any time you can take heat out of the air the better.
The new coyote's do in fact have an intercooler...it's just not hooked up. So, the more you cane them the more they heat soak, the more the PCM pulls the peformance.

Does anyone know if a 8psi non intercooled vortech kit will need a engine rebuild.

Just don't want to spend money to put the kit on and then the cost is doubled when the rods snap shortly after.

I asked the tuner selling and installing the kit but he says many customers have many years of happy motoring but he also said its no guarantee. It's not really an impartial position to ask if he is selling and charging for install (then an eventual rebuild)
