I've been patiently waiting for this day and it has finally come. The warranty is past, I have turned 30 (insurance) and I am ready to modify. I have an AUIII Pursuit 250 and I am looking for some advice on the best areas to spend my money, i.e. Exhaust, Cold Air Induction and Engine Management. Obviously this is not going to be an overnight project but I would like to work towards something better, much better. Any advice would be great, other than telling me to upgrade the entire vehicle.

Cheers,

Marty

Get some after-market heads, cam and intake. I'll buy all the leftover gear from you :)

Engine management - TwEECer support for the EEC-V is still a bit shady, perhaps look at EMS, Haltech, Motec. I'd steer clear of Unichip (from experience)

MAF, Throttle Body, Injectors, Fuel Reg, Fuel Pump.

All ready a good engine, I mean for a stock Windsor..
Id personally see what a nice Supercharger would set you back, nothing off the hook unless thats what your looking for!
Insurance should be no prob as your 30yo, big advantage that.

Yeah i'm not sure on the specifics but pretty sure the Pursuit engine has the good bits already - heads, intake manifold (YT roller rockers?!?).

Exhaust maybe... not sure what the extractors on there are like but most likely room for improvement.

Intercooled Vortech S-trim. Should bring you nice and close to the 500hp limit of the block 8-)

I third the supercharged option. The engine is a great package already, a blower is easy to install (and remove if you want) and produces tons of power. With a Vortech kit you will easily see 300rwkw, it is pretty hard to get that sort of power any other way other than forced induction.

I wouldn't touch the intake, she is better than many aftermarket items!! The blower option is your best bet power/cost wise. If you were wanting more after that, change the cam and swap the heads for AFR185s. MrLandau's MAF will improve the smoothness of the whole engine as well..

Mate, the 250 has all the goodies to start with, i konw i keep rabbitting on, but the cheapest way to get more Power is a dry NOS kit. i will be down your way in the next couple of weeks and can take you for a blast in my EF to show you the benefits. On the dyno, the NOS mimicks the Naturally Aspirated moter by at higher power figures

Get the exhaust done right with german high flow cats and no restrictions from cat back and do the cold air intake. This is the only mods I have and I'm turning 220.7 rwkw without any preparation. You already have good gear in the car, if your still not happy after these mods then do your cam and heads but be perpared to budget 5 to 10 for a motec and heads that will outshine the ones you have. Don't forget change the heads and cam and you may get more kilowats but you could also change the torque curve and it's pretty good with the current items.

i agree, force the induction. the 250 has all the necessary goodies already. raising inlet pressure is so effective in most forms of motorsport that the car is either restricted beyond competitiveness (eg. improved production, sports sedans, early '90s gpA, etc...) or just banned completely (eg. F1, supercars, etc...) . if it isn't banned, it is the only way to go (eg. drag racing, CART, rally, etc...).
just look how fat the torque curve is on the xt6t & f6 falcons from only 4L. imagine the torque of of a v8 multiplied by some psi

yeh i would say whack a blower on it myself. My brothers "work ute' is a blown 2002 SS, with shortened diff gears, 6 speed manual, twin 3 inch exhaust and super high flow cats. It goes nuts to say the least. Imagine that kinda thing on a ford instead of a holden. I reckon do it for sure.
