AU Fairlane 2002 SII V8 5Litre Stock
When i turn hard right the car almost stalls. Now i don't mean the motor is going to cut off completely however it's as if there is no power or fuel getting to the engine or something simular. Do the same thing on a hard left hand turn & no drama's i get traction loss or the traction light comes on if i have it enabled. Really stumped. Any diagnosis's??? |

How much fuel is in the tank when it does this?
Is the car well and truly warmed up when it does this? |

well when i first noticed it (2 days ago) there was about 1/4 tank of PULP.
I am going to put some more juice in 2moro. Will try it out again to see if it still does the same. Also yes the car was warmed up & running at normal temp. I have tested this scenario & it always does it no matter what. |

just filled up the tank the other day & i have noticed that the problem isn't happening any more.
So what's with this issue? |

It's possible someone has replaced your pump before and not put the sock on it properly. So when you go around a corner it sucks air at low fuel levels. It's also possible the pump is dying.

OK, i didn't think about this.
i just assumed that it was getting faulty. I have another AU Series II Fairlane only its a 6cyl. Will this fuel pump fit/work with my same model V8 counterpart? |

Yep they use the same pump but, I wouldn't put a 2nd hand pump in. Get a new one.

my fairlane VCT I6 had a fine working pump.
I may as well just use it as this is why i kept the car for (spare parts). If it's just the pump sock then hopefully i can re-adjust it to sit/fit properly. thx |

So i removed the boot carpet to have a look at how i can access the fuel pump.
there is a cover over the fuel pump but its sealed onto the fuel tank using some sort of black sealant/sealastic. The job looks factory so i am assuming i need to remove this item somehow. Any suggestions... |

So after a long while i managed to remove the fuel pump & take a gander inside.
The sock was filthy & it was more or less blocked with some sort of thick dirt/sludge or some crap. Got some hot soapy water & cleaned the sock to brand new status. Changed the fuel filter with a Z373 & i also had the petrol tank issue. So after a quick think about it i decided to remove the fuel tank & give it a nice clean as well. Out it came after a small issue trying to access the middle upper bracket bolt. Added around 1 litre of degreaser inside the tank & gave her a nice bath inside & out. Flushed it all out & let it dry out in the sun. Put it all back together & now she is actually behaving like a v8. I can't believe the difference it has made to the performance of the vehicle. the fuel pump sock/filter was that blocked that it was restricting fuel flow to the injectors at a critical level. Anyhow the v8 roar is back & the added performance is definitely felt. I am a happy camper now |
