Im in an AU Falcon Ute with the tickford v8 and theres a weird fan belt slipping noise coming from the engine very audible from the interior i think it could be a timing issue but not too sure cant get the noise to go when with a mechanic. Cars got 250k on the ticker and has had alternator radiator and fuel pumps replaced.

Forgotten what it's called but it sits in place of the distributor in au's. It acts like a crank sensor. When they fail they can make a screeching noise. Might be that.

Take your fan belt off and start it before you do anything else.

Absolutely the cam Sync sensor.
replacements are available on RockAuto.com. Make sure you find out if yours is 2 pin or 3 pin. They dont move any lubrication to the top of the sensor, so they go dry. Ive revived two in the past with a load of work. Using a really good penetrant, to free up the shaft, working it a heap, and then soaking it in oil from the top and letting it run down the bearing and shaft. They lasted 1-2 months after before going bad again. For a Series 2, or 3 with 3 pin connector, your looking at Standard motor Products CSA7 Go to rockauto.com, and search for XL2Z12A362AA Then pick the Standard Motor Products part, $99US. It also comes with the Tool to align it as you install it depending, shipping may not be too bad. You may also find them on ebay.com, with global shipping at about $92, plus $30 odd shipping (US) I did a lot of research and was importing these at one point, and these were on of the best rated by the mustang guys |
