Gday,
I was doing the monthly check underneath my XB and found a couple of welsh plugs weeping coolant. How serious is this? If I have to get them replaced does the engine have to be taken apart atall or do I just have to take it out of the car? What are the best plugs to replace them with? Thanks.

{USERNAME} wrote: Gday, hi,very serious,as you can loose all your water very quick. as you have more than one leaking, its time to change them all-----and behind the flywheel and the heads can be changed in car with plenty of time, or pull it out and do seals as well. use brass or stains steel welsh plugs with a sealer--they wont rust out

yep this is going to get worse pull the motor out and replace all of them and as suggested do the seals. aftermarket stainless are ok but there is nothing wrong with OEM types Thats what im sticking in.

they can be replaced in the car. the one behind the flywheel only needs to be worried about if it is leaking, you will have to pull off your extractors.

Well I picked up 6 plugs in a kit today. I have heard that if I undo the engine mounts and extractors, I can put the car on a hoist and with a bit of timber lift one side of the engine, and rotate the engine enough to get at them.
Other than that, its rip the motor out and bolt up a toploader while Im at it...and a 9".... Dollartime!
