turned out to a car fire last night - turned out to be a 05 BA II Xr8, 6spd manual attempting a burnout. luckily only small flames near the fire wall were soon put out, but wait there's more, when we tryed to push it off the road....

It sounded like a steel rubbish bin full of scrap steel was dropped on the road. And form under the car there was bits everywhere. Bell housing, clutch, flywheel gone, Ring gear off the flywheel had come off and was streched straight. Front end of gearbox gone, a few cogs lying about the place. Front of gearbox casing and bell housing just shredded and was lying everywhere, Pieces of fly wheel (I guess - they were quite heavy) over the place.
You could see into the valley between the rear cylinder (Plastic covers had melted off) either heads or block had literally ripped apart and the valley was full of coolant.

Oh well, suppose you could sell the seats on TM?

Funny thing, it was a wet greasy road!

generally revved to 6k then dumped will do this. i rememer seeing pics of an r32 that was revved to about 7500 rpm then dumped into 1st. The flywheel, clutch and tailshaft litterally exploded sending bits and peices all over the place. Chucks of flywheel making clean cuts through the chassis rails and floor pan. :?

Much the same thing happened a few years ago at a Nostalgia drag meet at Mackay.
A V8 SB Chevy powered '55 sedan. The flywheel exploded, ripped the firewall to bits, the floor, and the chassis rails. the body/chassis sagged down on to the extractors onto the track.

Nope not stolen, apparently they just brought it a month ago, 4 in the car, and she was over the limit.
Dropping the clutch sounds right from what you described above,I picked up a piece of what I thought was flywheel, and thought it was quite heavy and could rip through bits and pieces. The dude reckoned thee was a huge bang when it went.

So over the limit, no insurance I guess, bugga.

I would say its a waste but there not exactly rare.

Then again it could have gone to a better owner.

Does sound like a hell of a mess.
