i think the cause was pretty much a worn out rad cap as it hasnt lost as much(next to nothing) water as it use to but it does hold a hell of alot more pressure

yer i have thought about that conversion. how hard is the conversion? where and how hard is it to find an injected 351 as far as i know they are only in the f trucks and they are imported. do they or can they stil use the 302 extractors? ive looked at the specs and they dont have much power over the 302 in stock form but they would befit form just simple mods im guesing

www.suburbanimports.com.au always seem to have a few 351 Windsors. Quite a few guys have done it and said it was pretty much straight forward, main issue is the need for a bonnet scoop due to deck height. Just got to make sure you use a roller cam block. I have heard that the extractors off a 302 XY fit pretty good. The EA GT are fiited with a 351 in stock form and produce roughly 227kw and 475nm.

wasnt any probs at all to fit,no you dont need a bonnet scoop(although one is going on my girl)at the moment she's running alot of the 5.0 gear which as you can guess drops the power down heaps to what she's capable of,check my pics all origanal gear still fits although th manifold has changed to a custom one since the pic,the most expensive part was the retune( i opted for a retune of the origanal rather than buying an aftermarket flash tuner)which set me back around $1300

what sort of power are these 351's making?
wouldn't it be cheaper and easier to just do up the 5l?
like 3g on a 351 long motor or 3g on performance 5l parts?

What ever you do.. You still require good heads, exhaust, inlet and EFI hardware..
The cost of a 351 is about the $$ of a 5.0 rebuild..
Whatever mods are done to 5.0 the 5.8 would be so much easier..
Like using a 6 inch shifter or a 12 inch one...

couldnt have put it better myself xhxrsix
and if you love your 8's then the note the 351 puts out is a hell of a lot nicer than the lil 5.0 :D
not sure what kinder power mines pushing out havent given it a dyno since the injector and custom manifold change, but what i can say is its a s**t more than the 5.0,
still running a 3.23 lsd at the moment but thats soon to change as the outputs killing it pretty quickly,
thinking hard wheather to go the C4 conversion or beef the 4spd auto,C4 being the cheaper option
anybody know of a earlier type tail shaft that will fit the EF for strength (naturaly the yoke ect will have to be changed) but length ect

Are you running the 302 accessories? Did you have to make up many brackets? (have a feeling the other conversion I saw required custom brackets?)

The yoke is the same and im sure pretty sure the length is right too.We fitted a eb wagon limo diff to a mates xd and just used a eb tail shaft with the diff, its a cheap upgrade for better diff ratio

Extra deck height on 351w? I think its 9.5in? (only had a 302 so haven't measured myself)

If you have any pics of your install that would be awesome. As I said the only 351w install I have seen used a few custom brackets and would like to see how you fitted yours on.

Cheers

edit: sorry for being off topic but does anyone know what internals the 'reconditioned' suburban import 351w's use?

The accessory brackets bolt to head so being a wider engine due to higher deck . A longer serpentine belt is required.. A new sump is required due to larger rear main area...
There blocks are usually flat tappet.. But aftermarket rollers are available..
The 351 didn't have rollers till around 95.. The Lightning had flat tappet cam even though it's a roller block.. The std diff can handle a mild 351 ...
