we have a AU3 5lt motor for sale.
a good base to start a build up. GT40 heads , AU inlet manifold (explorer) roller lifters, and only $2500 for the long motor sump to throttle body. or then there is a 5.6 ts50 motor due in friday morning just bolt that sucker straight in with the tremec 5speed but about 4 times the price |

You talking about this bit?

Brett I havent bought anything yet. I'm still in the stage of learning and sorting out the bits that are right for me. |

Pumps exhuast gas into your intake manifold under light load (i.e. cruisn').

so what's the legality of removing the egr spacer? would you get any performance increase?

Im not sure on specifics but fair to assume no one's gonna be too pleased if you're removing emission controls. Few issues with removing EGR... Firstly - EGR is not active under full throttle so WOT performance is not affected. Only active when cruising/light load.... when you really dont need the extra power. Fault codes. EEC will notice it's gone and tell you about it everytime you check codes. Timing and fuel. The purpose of the EGR is to insert inert gas into the combustion process. As a result, EEC leans out fuel and advances timing, knowing that the engine is unlikely to detonate.... remove EGR and you have less fuel, more timing but no inert gasses... potential for detonation when cruisng. So, maybe with replacement manifold, large TB and a method of correcting the tune.... it'd be worth it.

As far as emissions are concerned - the EGR system should not b removed from the car. If you removed the spacer from a pre-AU vehicle the computer would throw up all sorts of fault codes at you. However - you can block the EGR ports in the heads and intake manifold and loop the coolant line around the EGR spacer and no-one will know (including the computer)

Why on earth would you do that? |

Yeah it sounds unusual but it actually cools the combustion chamber therefore decreasing the chance of detonation, it also reduces emissions. There really isn't any disadvantage running it, the upper intake does get hot quicker because of the exhaust gasses passing through but unless you block the passages at the heads and run a heat spacer betweent he upper and lower intake you won't see any performance increase by removing it IMO. |

How about a doco with pictures on bypassing the EGR?
I've got a spacer on the way.. heh

Do you know what the intake valve size is for the stock heads?
I've found the Edlebrock Performer heads have a 1.90" intake valve that will clear the stock pistons with a standard cam. The Edlebrock Performer manifold will cost $1,085.95 part# EB-3821 and the Edlebrock Performer heads (pair) complete is $2,141.95 part# EB-6037 All from http://www.vpw.com.au/nframeset.html The heads will require converting to 1/2" bolts or you can get Edelbrock Head Bolt Bushings EB-9680. Pro-M 75mm MAF with 24lb/hr injectors from Mr Landau for $950 Yella Terra 1.72 rockers ST 2027 (Hydraulic) $436.95. Could I keep the stock throttle body and EGR and use that on the Performer manifold? I think the above package would do me nicely even if it is a little over budget. What do you guys think? |

www.vpw.com.au has the YT 2027 "stealth" roller rockers for $436.95.
As much as the Edelbrock gear is good - I think you would get better bang for buck going for the Trickflow kit - it comes with complete heads, intake manifold, roller cam, roller rockers, pushrods, timing chain, headbolts, rockercovers and gaskets for just over $2100US. You would land this in Australia for around $4000-$4500 which is what yours is going to cost you by the time you add gaskets, headstuds for the alloy heads and pushrods. With the Trickflow kit you also get cam, timing set and rockercovers on top of that. Shane

E7TE has 1.78"/1.46" intake/exhaust IIRC
