As much as the Edelbrock gear is good - I think you would get better bang for buck going for the Trickflow kit - it comes with complete heads, intake manifold, roller cam, roller rockers, pushrods, timing chain, headbolts, rockercovers and gaskets for just over $2100US. You would land this in Australia for around $4000-$4500 which is what yours is going to cost you by the time you add gaskets, headstuds for the alloy heads and pushrods. With the Trickflow kit you also get cam, timing set and rockercovers on top of that. Shane Cheers Mr Landau. Thats a fair bit of info there. Do you have a link to it at all so I can compare heads/manifolds? Not that I dont trust you its just I'm new to all this. Thanks again. |

Thanks 4.9 EF Futura. 1.9" intakes are sounding good to me then. |

Think it's more about flow.... the E7TEs flow 155cfm in at .500 lift... the various GT40s flow around 190-195cfm at same lift. May be worth looking at aftermarket specs on flow as well. Happy reading.

It says the only thing it doesnt have is the lifters. I wouldnt be installing anything myself (lack of tools/skill). Would the throttle body and EGR bolt straight onto the Trickflow manifold? Anything else I've missed for the swap over of parts that would be needed from stock to Trickflow or Edelbrock? |

You'd probably also need a phenolic spacer as well as an EGR gasket for the TB. However, ideally you'd need a bigger TB as well as the opening on those Trickflow intakes are 75mm. Get a new TB with the EGR kit included..

They bolt in like std heads etc.Just alittle bending and pushing with front flexable fuel crossover oround front lower manifold as the TFS is wider than std.But NOTHING that can't be done with your hands..
It'll run with std t/b for a while. If you don't want to payout all in one sum..Then 70 mm and bigger maf if you havn't already? 25 Lb injectors and corect maf calibration and it should punch out some serious power... Btw I don't have thermo spacer on mine..If you are good at cutting holes in that stuff I can get it in panels about 12mm thick..Too much more and you'll have bonnet clearance issues...

Because lifters are not included in the Trickflow kit can you use the stock ones?
BTW are the lifters the part that runs on the cam shaft operating the pushrods? |

BTW are the lifters the part that runs on the cam shaft operating the pushrods? Correct, hydraulic roller lifters in these engines. Personally I'd be tempted to replace them whilst the engine is in pieces. The stock ones should be ok with that setup (i assume wont be revving past 6000rpm?) so maybe look at just getting a fresh set of stockers? FMS replacements seem to be fairly popular with the mustang guys but i dont think they're cheap. From what i've read, failure uncommon in the roller lifters... but seems worthwhile whilst the engine is apart.

Does the original fit EGR fit straight onto the Edelbrock/Trickflow manifold or do you have to get a new one for it?
I'm still in two minds about which setup to go for? If I go for Edelbrock then I dont get cam/pushrods/gaskets etc but then I pay about the same and get less power/torque. If I go for Trickflow kit I will pay a lot more for labour but will have more power/torque. What would be a ballpark figure to get someone to do the labour if I bought all the parts? BTW everyone I do appreciate all the help and I'm not just 'talkin' here I will be doing this either with the Edelbrock setup or the Trickflow. Cheers Any opinions of what you would do in my position would be great. Thanks |

The original EGR fits straight onto the Trickflow manifold.
To block the EGR passage properly, you will need to take off the lower manifold aswell as the upper and use the blanking gaskets that are supplied in the lower inake manifold gasket kit. I use the Fel Pro set 1250. That way no exhaust gas goes into the manifold at all.

Personally I'd be tempted to replace them whilst the engine is in pieces. The roller lifters shouldn't wear at all so normally don't need replacing. It is a good idea to disassemble them and clean them out when rebuilding an engine as they can get a fair bit of crap in them over the years. The trickflow kits are decent packages and have proven results (normally around 200-210rwkw). The Edelbrock heads and intake are still my favorite (besides AFR) for general street 5L's, they are good quality and produce very good results. They probably won't get the same peak power as the Trickflows but low end and mid range is normally stronger from what I have seen. Either one you will be very pleased with anyway. One thing to note is that I would not be doing all these upgrades with the stock bottom end. I would at a minimum do a quick rebuild, balance the rotating assembly (the stock balance isn't great) and thow some decent APR main studs and rod bolts in to help with strength. |
