Just picked up my manifold and it looks like its had a polish. Was wondering if someone could identify exactly what its off by looks or part numbers?

{DESCRIPTION}

Upper part # RF-XL2E-9425-AB

Lower part # RF-F87E-9K461-BB and also has the number 1248

Also can anyone tell me if its had any porting. I took a few measurements, the diameter of the upper intake where throttle body connects is 69mm, and the ports on the lower are 43mm x 25mm.

Cheers

Its an AU Explorer manifold and yeah looks like the upper has been polished up a bit. Not sure on the port sizes but they sound like they are stock, port work should be easy to see, you will feel and see the difference from the roughish casting finish to the smooth finish of porting.

Thanks for that Grant.....doesn't feel that rough but its definately not real smooth either, so I don't think it has had any porting.

As you know what my specs are going to be, is this going to be the restriction of my combo, and do you think it is wise and spend a few $$$ on porting?

Also how do I go about tapping TPS into intake? Can I use the one on the car already?

Cheers

I don't think its worth the cost to port it, if you have some spare time and a die grinder maybe spend an hour or two port matching the intake and some light porting around the number 1 and 5 runners in particular, but it wouldn't be a big deal on your combo IMO, and I wouldn't pay for it to be done.

When you said TPS, do you mean ACT/IAC sensor? The easiest option is to mount your existing one it in the rubber intake piping between the TB and the MAF, that way you only need to extend the wiring. You can tap it into the lower intake but I wouldnt go to that much effort.

Yeah sorry not TPS (was thinking MAFs at the time), I did mean air temp sensor.

Is it just standard wiring or something I should tax off a wreck? Too lazy to go and look under the bonnet.

Someone else also mentioned ISC airflow might be a problem with idle, what do you reckon?

Nah, just cut the wires and solder a short piece in to extend them, heat shrink them and thape them up, probably need 10-20cm more length. Some people have idle issues but the majority I have seen have been fine, I have run a few large cams on mine and I have had no issues. If you let the EEC learn for a while, and make sure TPS voltage is good, MAF is clean, the idle is set properly and the base timing is correct then you should have no problems IMO.

Sounds good.....don't think i'll bother with EGR, probably just knock the timing back a couple of degrees and hopefully it wont effect idle.

Thanks

P.S Timmeh, get your eyes off it, unless you give me $200 for it...lol

That looks exactly like my old manifold... sold on ebay about 7 months ago with 19lb EV6 injectors for $600. Only the second time I've seen one like this so very possibly it's the same one.

If it is the same one it has had a polish yes but only enough to shine it up a bit yet leave the casting texture (dremel, wire brush and metal polish). The ports weren't touched at all.

How much did you pay for it if you don't mind me asking?

Looks like it could be the same one!!!

I got it from a guy in Langwarrin, his user name on FF i think is andy123 or something similar.

He said he paid $700 for it (upper and lower), that was to go on his EF, but got rid of the car and never put it on.

I got it from him for $480, which was the best deal going around

Thats a great price for an explorer, especially a polished one.

Great!!!

Was also going to ask do you reckon I need taller rocker covers? Was going to buy some polished chrome ones anyway, but wondering if I should look for taller ones at the same time.

You probably dont need taller ones unless you run adjustable rockers, the normal chrome ones are generally taller though.

offyaguts... dude, well done... deal of the month! I put many hours into that finish (if it is the same one, but am almost sure it is)... keep the metal polish up to it and she'll look awesome. Roller rockers often have in some cases required thicker rocker cover gaskets but in many cases stock covers are fine. Most aftermarket are no prob at all as far as rocker are concerned however the EFI manifold may become a clearance issue. Consider a phenolic spacer while you're at it.
