I used to have a VR stato 5L with leather. Top car, I only got rid of it because we were offered a much newer car and we sold it. I'd still have it today otherwise.

Final drive ratio's and weight..
Even a 3.27 conversion livens them up..
3.7 would be better. Without affecting fuel consumption ... They are designed for smooth comfortable cruising..

At the end of the day, it all comes back to the purpose of the car. If it just to be a daily, then the 3:27 is fine. But as mine only comes out to play every now and then, a change to 3:45 for the extra poke is a must.
Hell, I'm even gunna be ripping out my LPG install soon as "performance" and "dual fuel" shouldn't be mentioned in the same sentence AFAIC.
Mine currently has 3:27 LSD factory fitted and is a pig off the line! (just ask Banarcus :) ) But I have a 3:45 lined up to go in soon, that with the SL's will separate it from the rest of the "comfortable cruisers" I hope

nothing wrong with 4.11 in a daily as for fuel consumption use less city driving an bugger all on the hwy an revs are nothing if your driving a v8 anyways

an you might as well not waste your money moving too 3.45 from 3.27 you will not notice anything a waste 3.9 .4.11 is the go

in my i6 i noticed negligable difference around town going from 3.08 - 4.11's, but on the highway there was 50-100km difference (usually more towards 50km).

Yeah, like my BA V8 is a fair bit quicker than my old 6cyl ED wagon or the kids skateboard down the road :)

ewww the VQ statos are just a VN with a buble glass top, plastics and s**t every where, the only thing they got goin for them is that the 5L does perform a little better stock due to there L34 style heads. but what can ya do?

You won't find L34 heads on any factory efi Holden... The L34 is the old LH Torana cylinder head.

And was only on the SL5000 (i think that was the model?) torana's at that.

The VN's had the best late model 308 heads and shorter intake runners which is why it performed better stock.....that and the weight reduction over falcons.

I know that, thats why i said "STYLE" heads, there ports and valves are very similer to the L34 lol.

Oh and yeah, the turbo700 box does have a realy good first gear, looking at the ratio its like almost the same as a T5 first gear. unlike the BTR, got nothing untill its moving, but i dont like standing still runs, prefer the rolling street runs, a true test of street performance.

Off topic here, but didn't all Holden V8 heads up to the VN(except the VL walky) have siamese ports?

nicskitz, your right about the GM auto and its gearing. My statesman always felt perkier than my wagon when it was auto and felt quicker through the gears under acceleration.

um yeh all stock holden V8 heads up to the VL used the siamese ports like the small block chev.

yeah the turbo700 seems to be very nice off the line. My EF needs diff gears bad, as it got nothing off the line with the BTR and 3.23.

My fairlane is bog stock. except for ar filter panel type..

If I boot my car it will spins off the line and pulls hard.. Its no muscle car but its not slow..

It wont whip a Holden V8 or an I6 ford but they wont whip me either..

The 3.27 gears and auto transmission are ok in my view..

I had 3.45 gears in my old fairmont V8 and not much difference..
