I wanted to start going a little more crazy with the lane.
so i am thinking some more power would be the go. not bagging the current block thats in their at the moment however i've read through some posts etc & have noticed a few members using different type of V8 Windsor blocks. Which type would be a good solid strong block for stroker, forced induction & possibly NOS applications? |

Dart blocks are the go if you want to stroke it. Also allows you to keep driving your current running gear and build a stroker on the side as finances allow.
Basically build the entire bottom end, if you intend on running your existing top end, its easy enough to swap it around before it gets dropped in.

302 blocks are a bit weak and can only go to 347, wheras 351 W blocks can supposedly take upto 800hp and can be stroked to 427. Thats the way i'd go, the 351 blocks fit in with only a couple of small changes, and with the right manifold bonnet clearance isn't an issue.

The Dart SHP 8.2" blocks are excellent value for money, with the 4.125" bore and 3.4" stroke you end up with 363cui. These blocks are only around USD2000 which is a small amount to pay if you're chasing some serious figures with a modest budget.
Everything will bolt right in without any screwing around and to the untrained eye - it's still a "302W"

I like the sound of the 351W block. that's what ive been meaning to find out in more detail. whats the deal with a 351W block? can i use any 351W block? will my heads & accessories still fit & operate as normal. whats involved?

The block casting number is F4TE, which is what they are sometimes referred to. Its basically the 351 equivelent of our 302's. Most things bolt straight up to it, the only things that won't are the lower manifold, which in the 351 is wider, some extractors don't fit, but I know defilipos do, the distributors are longer to match the taller deck height and thats pretty much it I think. There might be some slight differences here and there but nothing that stops it going into a Falcon, there's at least 7-8 that I know of. Bonnet clearance might be an issue with a tall manifold but the shorter ones like the RPMII and Victor 5.0 Edelbrocks fit. You just need to get the 351 lower manifold to suit, the uppers are all the same. Or you could always run a bonnet bulge. |
