Hi all I have a 302 windsor i want to put heads on it. I have a 302 cleveland with mild heads on it. How much would it cost to put them on the windsor and how much are manifolds to suit .
Any help would be great. |

HMMMM boss 302.... very cool Parts should be available through places like VPW or Rocket, clevland heads on windsor was a good thing for ford (BOSS 302 Mustangs) however , aftermarket heads have come a long way since the 70's. But if you already have the heads, I would talk to a place that does Heads to get prices. Good luck with it, I always wanted to do the same for my XY, exept use a 351 windsor, stroked to 410, with Chi 3v alloy heads and quad 2bbl webber style injection .... but i'll stick with mild 302 clevo for now due to budget constraints...

With the amount for a boss manifold, and the minor gains with clevo heads (2v closed chambers) It might be better going a set of edelbrocks or AFR, Trickflow, etc and just getting the gains from there.

These days there are so many good alloy heads for the windsor family of motors, that you would, (If money allows,) be heaps better off with a set of aftermarket alloys over a set of cast iron Clevo heads. The wheight saving alone is a huge benefit, also MOST aftermarket companies have been able to fix the poor flow problems that the early iron heads suffered.
However ,having said that, If you already have a set of mild clevo heads you really have to decide on how much you want to spend. Say around $3000 for a set of alloy heads vs $1200 for maifold?? ( just roughly, not exact prices)

Keep in mind the alloy heads have stainless valves, brass guides, decent valve springs and stud mount heads. So most the valve train is done... You wouldn't use the pressed steel rockers ? A good set of roller rockers, guide plates and CORRECT pushrods and your done.. You'll need that with either heads..

If you're going to do it you may as well use CHI 185 heads and the matching intake. Finding a Boss 302 style intake for std type heads is not too easy these days. There was one called the B&A Street boss(dual plane) or the Track boss(single plane) but since the windsor aftermarket heads are so good these days they stopped producing them.
As the guy's say aftermarket windsor heads are the easier option and in some ways the better choice. |

Any help would be great. First up what is your budget? The cheapest and easiest performance upgrade would be a set of GT40P heads from YT, but the spark plug angle may cause you problems. Alternatively how about some aftermarket iron heads such as RHS? If you can afford $2,000 or more then strongly consider alloys such as Edelbrock, TFS or AFR. However to benefit from them you'll need to change camshaft and intake manifolds, also some headers and a free flowing exhaust.

If rotating assembly only requires rings and bearing you'll just make it .. Is the bottom end stuffed or do you just want to ?? There's not much in parts but PLENTY of labour involved... $2k heads $1k inlet $400 cam + or - $300 Now the rebuilt part gets alittle interesting ?? I must say though if you buy as you go over 6 months its not so hard on wallet..
