Looking into prices etc for new heads and manifold for my EL2 XR8. I have noticed that a lot of people have used Trickflow stuff so I would like to get the Trickflow heads and manifold but I am unsure of which ones to look at for straight bolt on etc.

Just wondering what type should I be asking for keeping in mind that I would also like to look into a stroker kit later on. Do I just go the Street Twisted Wedge heads and maybe the Track Heat manifold?

Any advice would be appreciated as I'm not really sure which ones I should be getting prices on.

thats the same setup as i was looking at along with the stage 2 cam i belive the twisted heads are direct replacements to the e7 heads (same size and zorts ports) unlike the gt40 head that can some times have clearence issuse.

Yeah thats what I was hoping. It reads like the twisted wedge type heads are a direct replacement with no need for custom extractors etc. Are these the heads that other people have used? Will look up on the AFRs.

The trickflow heads are close to the afr165's from what i can see only diffrence being that the trickflows have bigger intake valves ,2.02" Intake,1.60" Exhaust compared to, AFR with 1.900 intake valves, 1.600â€￾ exhaust valve. and the intake port volume being diffrent 170cc(TF) 165cc (afr)

They both say that no "special parts needed" with the install but it dose say that the afr ones need a notched for clearance for a 86 5.0l (not sure what one we'd put ours down as). where it dosen't say anything along those lines for the trickflow.

Also a nother thing i've been looking at is what it's made of afr i can't see, if some one can tell me?
the trickflows are Aluminum, might be a weight saving in their as well.

I have to stop look at this stuff,
The price diffrence may come in to it as well AFR1400
Heads 5.0L 165cc 3/8 CNC ported 61cc costing 3,435.17

where the TFS51400002
Heads 302w T/Wedge cost $2,152.51

Yeah that's the site that I was looking at aswell. I'm currently looking at some posts on the corral forums and reading up about what they use in the states. It looks like the majority of people on there use the twisted wedge heads with the street or track heat manifolds and also a trickflow stage 1 cam.

afr 165s flow a little less than the twisted wedge heads.. but they're a great torque head and will take shaft mount rocker arms. not sure if they take the same partnumber as stock iron heads. they mite be compatible with edelbrocks(, which take different rockers to stock)

afr 185s have bigger valves so you cant use them on a standard bottom end(depends on cam lift maybe i dont know).. but they flow more than TWs i think.. and these AFR heads are getting alot of good things mentioned about them atm.

trickflow twisted wedge heads have canted valves, so that u can use them on standard bottom ends even with the big valves. but you cant use common shaft mount rockers, you need stud mount rockers, (not the cheaper simpler yella terra 'stealth' shaft mount) which bears its own extra cost coz you p1ss f4rt around with stud girdles n things like that. also possible clearance issues on rocker cover.

theres also edelbrock, which it just so happens im goin for(..coz a good deal came up). but im gettin the larger valve version which sits somewhere between afr185 and 165s, and just like the other inline valve(non canted) heads, i cant use them untill i get new pistons. which is ok, since ill be building a second motor up n then swapping.

twisted wedge are still the pick out of the trickflow heads. very versatile. but which head are the best is open to debate. my preference is afr, secondly edelbrock. mainly coz they're big names, and for rocker simplicity.

as far as your manifold goes, my choice was the edelbrock RPM 2. its their latest offering, i think to compete with the trickflow and holley intakes. works well apparently. with your car being the el2 means uve already got a half decent manifold though. stick with that for now i say. (my car is an el2, but i have the el gt manifold. bees d**k difference to wot you got, and im stickin with it)

G Day all
If you go alloy heads you save around 25 lbs per head over cast iron. Also if you go 2.02 intake you will loose some low down toque. The 1.90 intake are a good around size if you after hp go the bigger vaves.

yep^ thats like 20 kilos on teh front of your car!

but strokers like the bigger valves aswell. otherwise your max volumetric efficiency is too low in the rev range and sure you just end up making extra torque but only really down low.

well.. for me anyway. all depends what you want really.

Has anyone heard of Pro Topline Heads? Pavtek in Victoria market these as a decent SBC and Ford Windsor head.

heard of em.. not many people usin em yet. they're hella cheap compared to other heads out there too..

when they first came out something was mentioned about there being no rockers to suit. i guess that isnt a problem now.

Its all starting to sound like it will be very expensive but I might still make some calls and see if I can get prices for all the bits and pieces for Trickflow Heads / Cam / manifold just for s**t and giggles.

you may find the afr heads you priced up were the race cnc ported heads.. the base heads are also cnc'd, but not to that point. and they should cost abotu $2600 or so.
