AU onwards dont do salt & vinegar or original ( chips )
the computer is "flash" tuned from a small hand held tuner box. look up SCT XCAL3 flash tuner or sniper flash tuning.

AU's are a bit unique in that they can be chip tuned via the J3 port or flash tuned via the diagnostic port. Some later EEC's have the J3 disabled but can be re-enabled by soldering links onto the PCB where they were left unpopulated by the factory.
I would use a Moates 1/4 horse to tune but you need to find out if your particular EEC catch code has been hacked to be sure if it has support. The beauty of the 1/4 horse is you can tune in real time and then, when finalised you could either burn a J3 chip to plug in or if you wanted load the tune by hand, which can be tedious, into a flash device like SCT stuff and reflash the EEC. |

i have a j3 in my xh xr6. i got told that some aus couldnt run j3 chips so an sct or flash tune would be the way to go.... i dont want a pre programed tune though.... i want a proper dyno tune. do you know much about efi live?

I've already explained why some EEC's don't work with a J3 and how to fix it.
What's efi live? |

I've tuned a couple of AU220s now with Quarterhorse. One with AFR165s, Trick Flow Track Heat intake and Vortech, making around 400rwhp. It drives like a factory car until you put the boot into it, where it becomes an animal. Without the blower, a couple of well-known tuning shops had a go at tuning with the SCT gear and it drive like s**t.
Another one was stock auto. It gained torque everywhere, as well as around 30rwhp. It feels so much stronger to drive and fuel consumption has improved considerably. Tonight I've got a manual 220 going on the rollers with ported GT40x heads, ported Explorer and comp xe270. Looking forward to seeing what kind of power she makes. Idle and cruise tuning resulted in a much stronger feeling down low and better fuel economy, to boot. I would recommend the Quarterhorse, if your car is supported, over the SCT any day!
